How were you introduced to Magic?

I was introduced to Magic in middle school, around 2002 I believe. There, that gives you an idea of how old I am.

Anyway, I was taught the mechanics on the fly, and this was back when Mana Burn (any mana left over would deal damage to you) was relevant. I must have at least lost 5 life in a single game as I was learning. My friends first asked me what deck I would like to play with.

"Well, I like to think my way out of problems," I replied. They handed me a promotional (read: replica of a pro tour deck) deck that was blue and very controlley. It was far, far out of my skill range at the time.

Someone had cast a blue spell and then I took my turn and cast Mana Haze. Yeah, I didn't quite understand what it did. I basically locked myself out of that game. 

I came back into Magic when I was at Endgame in Oakland and read the flavor text on the back of the packaging of the Magic 2010's Presence of Mind. I bought it immediately. I didn't even know if my old friends had their cards still. I hurried home to open my deck up and see what it was like.

Curiously, I didn't know intro packs came with booster packs. So, with trepidation of excitement, I tore into the pack and in the back in the rare slot was a Platinum Angel! I thought it was the best thing ever! I CAN'T LOSE, THEY CAN'T WIN! This was before I knew about removal. But man, so help me if I slapped on Whispersilk Cloak  on the sucker and went to town! I took it as a sign that I should make this my new hobby. I've never looked back since.
