Baby Please Don't Go - Mississippi Fred McDowell
1971
Hill country blues that won't let go
Mississippi Fred McDowell turns this blues standard into a deep, rolling groove, his guitar and voice locking together with hypnotic force.
Recorded live, on November 5, 1971, at the MacDougal Street Gaslight II, in New York City.
This is actually the seventh version of Baby Please Don't Go to appear on the blog, with a few of the others hiding in my Double and Triple Doses.
MASAYOSHI TAKANAMA'S TRAIN GUITAR was crafted in the late 1970s by the master luthiers at Hoshino Gakki (the company behind Ibanez), this one of a kind hollow body electric guitar was built to look like a vintage steam locomotive.
Complete with detailed wheels, a smokestack, and even a small working headlight - this thing was the real deal for train enthusiasts and autistics alike.
Takanaka commissioned it as a playful extension of his love for trains and travel, and he has used it on stage and in the studio ever since.
