the black background thing happened to me too!! i just put a white image as the background and that fixes but I don't know how to fix it other wise?? why is it happening?

It’s such a bitch move, really. Haha. Yeah that fixes it, but if you don’t want an image you can remove it. It happens because Tumblr auto-adds it for you if you haven’t put a background picture on your blog.

To fix it, you need to customize your theme and open the HTML. Then you need to search for this section in the coding (don’t go through all the trouble of reading the entire thing and press ctrl + f):

background-image: url('http://assets.tumblr.com/images/x.gif');

There might be two of these lines: one for your header (if you have one), and one for your background. You need to delete this line for your background completely and that should fix it.

It might look a bit different, because your settings and adjustments are different on your blog. Basicaly you need to remove everything from “background-image” to the “ ; " sign. That removes one line of coding.

Play around with it a bit. It might be clever to copy and paste your original HTML in a word document so you can start over if something goes wrong! :)
