Tucking a character's arm into a partially unbuttoned jacket or shirt as a makeshift sling to steady an injured arm; easy, reasonably effective, doesn't require any additional supplies- simple enough even for a lone character to shove their own arm into the front of their coat without an additional hand to tie a proper sling, or for a companion to guide the limb into place in a situation where all they have to work with is the clothes on their backs.

Something I don't think people realize about historical weapons and...should be considered in fantasy.

Slings.

...a properly shot stone from a sling can generate 100ft lbs of force and rival a javelin or spear.

And they go farther...

Shepherds had only slings for ages.

They do require amazing skill, but when it's all ya got in the backwoods....you get damn good.

There are recorded quotes from conquistadors that Incan slings were chipping, even shattering, some swords. You take that to the upper 1/3 of your skull? Rip...

David beat Goliath because he brought a 9 mil. To a sword fight.

Now bows overtook the sling because it's an easier skill gap to close than mastering a sling.

Easy? No..still takes practice.

Easier? Yes.

You can also get off more shots quicker, and then when you're mounted??? The Mongol Empire, the largest contiguous land empire, has entered the chat.

But, yeah, slings are gnarly. They're cheap. Effective.

And rocks...well, ammo is everywhere.

Little Tiger is a mommy!!!!

I saw one of her little slings hop when I misted their enclosure, and another came out to look at me when I talked to them. The one above is the bravest of them all!

I need to get out my macro lens this weekend to get a decent photo, but look how absolutely tiny this itty bitty baby is!

Miss ma'am, my wild child, really said "I'm home" as soon as her enclosure was finished. She's a bit thin after laying two fertile sacks back to back (first one had an almost 100% survival rate, second are still in the hammock) but she's already eating like a champ again and still happy to see me 🥹

the meal worms head was crushed before feeding, I don't have any crickets because she's been in her hammock for a couple months and she needed food asap.
