i’m sorry, i know you definitely don’t go here, but some of the things that pete and roger have said about each other genuinely have me climbing the walls and rattling the bars of my cage.
it is a very different dynamic from keith and charlie, but one that i enjoy just as much! pete and roger had an extremely turbulent relationship throughout the first few decades of their careers. but now i’m happy to say that they’ve mellowed out and realized how important they are to each other :’)
No apologies necessary, I really enjoyed reading this!
I think their dynamic reminds me a bit more of Keith and Mick (Keith once referred to Mick as “a nice bunch of guys” and has said things in the past that align to basically calling big aspects of Mick’s personality and actions ‘horrendous’) than Keith and Charlie or Charlie and Mick. I get the sense it took losing Charlie, who was always their focal point and mediator, for Mick and Keith to fully realize what they mean to each other, and I can imagine that losing Keith and John may have also had that sort of an impact on them?
Regardless, what a fascinating dynamic and I’m glad they’re willing to talk so candidly about each other - I hope they get to enjoy their relationship for years to come.
i truly hope you can find the joy in making art again! the world needs more david fanart!!! here’s some lovely side profiles that you can practice from <3
Aaa, I love a good side profile, and for some reason it’s always been the thing I loved drawing the most! By the way, I love how you love both DB and The Who! Talking Heads and The Who are my favorite bands! I used to do a LOT of Who drawings and paintings, yearrrrrs ago... Maybe I’ll post them sometime, for old times' sake. 😬 Thanks for the effort of sending me inspiration @slit-skirts <3
i hope this isn’t too outside of your comfort zone but would it be possible for you to write something fluffy about old pete and roger messing around and making each other laugh on stage? they’ve been through so much together and definitely deserve to unwind and enjoy each other’s company! 🥺❤️
YES my favorite grandpas 🥺❤️ sorry this took a while, I was busy going insane
Who would have thought that Pete and Roger would still be touring over 60 years after Pete's quick audition at Roger's apartment, still in sync with their movements on stage? Some may say they should call it a day at their age, but they loved what they did and it would be a shame to stop publicly appearing together now that they truly enjoyed each other's company, on and off stage.
“Over the last 60 years, we've had our ups and downs. Some of the ups were the songs that keep us old geezers in demand now,” Pete explained before adding with a playful glare at Roger, followed by a chuckle, “One of the literal downs was during the Quadrophenia rehearsals when Rog knocked me out.”
Roger rolled his eyes, having had to listen to Pete blame him for the bald spot on his head ever since, but he was glad they could mess around now about things that had once gotten them into fights about how one could be so unforgiving. He started laughing and commented jokingly, “You know how it is with eccentric geniuses, sometimes you have to bring in the big guns.”
Pete walked over to hug Roger from the side, rubbing his upper arm as they both laughed. Roger leaned against Pete's shoulder, wrapping an arm around his friend's middle and patting his back.
Until that day when he had sat with Pete in the ambulance, holding his hand on the way to the hospital, they had never been very physically affectionate. However, at this point, he was glad they could casually hug each other.
All the confessions to the press that they didn't talk were only to keep up the impression that the best bands don't see eye to eye as people and strictly work together. What sense would it make if they had built this image for themselves back in the 60s and carried on with it when now they were obviously on good terms?
Before Pete returned to his spot on stage left, Roger pressed a kiss to his cheek and then turned around with a wide smile, bringing the microphone up to his face to introduce the next song: The Real Me, fittingly for the Quadrophenia era reference.
When they started playing, Pete fondly looked at his singer. Swinging his microphone, Roger walked in his direction, making a funny face at the guitarist, who smiled – or rather beamed – in response.
They didn't need to stand close to each other, but it was more fun this way if they goofed around a little in between songs and during instrumentals. Despite their differences, they genuinely appreciated each other as a friend and although they were comfortable enough to say it, there was no need as it showed in the looks they shared.
To think that the two of them used to have a more work-focused relationship and sometimes didn't really get along personally at all. After everything they had been through, it was a miracle they were living life as they did now, but they wouldn't have it any other way. They were lucky to have each other and as long as Roger wanted to keep performing, so would Pete. He only wanted to make him happy.
some 60s keith and charlie because they are the cutest little guys ever!!!!!! 🥹💖
Awww, these are all such good photos. My favorite ‘60s photo of them (which may also be a rare example of Charlie initiating affection?) is this one from 1964, because Keith looks like his soul is leaving his body out of pure joy over Charlie resting his chin on his shoulder.
