Chiming in late as one of the few Gale defenders (also very late lol) to add that its frustrating to see how everything Gale does or says gets interpreted under the most uncharitable light possible which is not something that happens to other characters, even ones who were just as involved with the bombing situation as him
it is frustrating because the thing that personally gets me is that I like to assume that whenever someone’s doing analysis or talking about characters or whatever they’re at the very least coming from a place of good faith. And with Gale so many people just do not come from a place of good faith, they are determined to hate him for some reason (interfering with their ship) and as a result everything he says or does is interpreted like you say as uncharitably as possible. and it is effective at shutting down discussion or different opinions, which is obviously the goal there. but it is crazy like yes Gale is an adult and fully responsible for his own choices but do we see more mature adults getting dragged through the mud over their roles in the bombing? is there this level of vitriol towards Beetee or Coin? obviously not, and it’s because the Gale hate has nothing to do with “holding him accountable” (which is such bs with a fictional character anyway). it’s stemming from somewhere else, not bc people care about his character in any capacity
