The second challenge I’ll be participating in this month is #slowtober2020, a challenge that aims to encourage slower, more thoughtful process resulting in a single, satisfying, completed art piece. • I have a handful of pieces like the ones I showed earlier this year in ’Tie Tether Tangle’ that I had planned and prepared, before 2020 got in the way. • Though the goal is to complete a single piece, I’ve already covered the planning and prep stages, so it’s possible I’ll get through more than just the one - I know what I’m like when the flow takes me - but we’ll see 💁‍♀️ • Speaking of October, things are already getting spoopy on my feed! #slowtober2020 catchup mode: day 7 (I counted) • I finally finished puncturing! I caught a wave of motivation so I sat for a solid hour (three full episodes of ATLA) and that was all it took. • I’m so glad to finally be ready to move onto the next phase, but also that hour of puncturing was positively meditative (besides to hand cramps towards the end!). #slowtober2020 day... I’ve lost count 😅 • Slowtober? More like #quicktober, amirite! Seriously though, this month is getting away from me. • At the start of this year, before everything went south, I comfortably made 4 complete works in as many weeks. I had motivation and creative momentum. That rhythm I was talking about in previous posts - I just can’t find it again. It eludes me. But I’ll keep pressing on. • Normally I’d berate myself for falling off the horse, so to speak, but honestly I’m struggling to find energy to spare for even that. This year has taken a lot out of all of us. On balance, having attempted the challenge I’ve gotten much further than if I hadn’t attempted it at all. Even failure is still kind of success. • I’m going to press on, and try to at least finish puncturing the work in the next couple of days (it’s hard to see but I’m just over half-way done). I know I haven't posted anything for #slowtober but I figured I would take my sweet time and take time for myself as well 🙃. I've just transferred the sketch and am working on the shading in colored pencil. This will also be a gift for my partner 🤔, sooooo hopefully he doesn't see this in his feed. #slowtober2020 day 6 (catchup mode) • The toughest part of this process is sustaining a rhythm. It’s not tricky to puncture a single hole, but over and over can get tiring. • Settling into a rhythm helps the work progress, especially if you can achieve flow. #slowtober2020 day 3: haha punctured dots got brrrt • I love checking my progress as I go with this step - it’s slow-going but it’s really satisfying seeing the scaffolding for the final work going in. • As with the process of iterating, add one element, remove another; seeing the dot matrix beneath the pattern can reveal something about the nature of the pattern itself that wasn’t immediately evident. • Also pulling up the paper makes such a satisfying sound 😌 • What little parts of your process do you enjoy? • #slowtober #artober #embroideryart #gridart https://www.instagram.com/p/CF8eFnqD2iC/?igshid=19dyrtd76urbv

#slowtober2020 day two was a busy one so I didn’t get to work on my piece, but that’s ok - we’re on a long weekend here is QLD so I’ll have plenty of time to catch up 😊 • We’re still close to the start, but I’m keen to show you guys my process. This is the step before I start stitching.
