You: I might, potentially, not for sure at all possibly update slsosc
Me: *spends my week updating ao3 in hopes of an update
How about a little spoiler for us impatient people who love your writing?
haha anon!! <3 i can definitely give you a little excerpt!
Of the whole band, Maybank had the least to lose with joining The Pogues. There was no scholarship to pass up, no family business to take over. He would have made a living as his father did: on scraps. Waiting tables for tips and scrubbing barnacles off boats. “Or like my mom,” he said, once. (His mother passed away when he was eight.)
Do you really think that? I had asked.
There was a long pause. “Not really.”
Which wasn’t a no.
Any snippets from the next chapter of slsosc you can share with the class?
ofc anon!! heres a wee bit:
It suits her, this new life. Later, she tells me that she doesn’t know where she’d be now if it wasn’t for The Pogues. “Probably married to Topper [Thornton],” she says, with a laugh, who was her high school boyfriend and now models for J-Crew. It’s said with some sadness, though, a grief for a Sarah somewhere who didn’t get out.
John B says he’d be a teacher; Pope says the same thing. I only believe Pope.
JJ laughs. “A mechanic,” he says. “Or a fisherman.” Salt-of-the-earth, I say. “Yeah, or just poor.”
So since jiara week is a week away, how about a snippet to hold us over??👀
hehe but of course!! this is a band fic snippet as a lot of things from supers r very spoilery
“That was really stupid of you,” she says, quietly.
She didn’t realise how angry she is at him until she’s faced with direct evidence of it. JJ takes another long drag of the cigarette before he says, “Aren’t you gonna ask me how I am?”
“Not if you’re going to lie.”
He shoots her a sharkish smile that doesn’t reach his eyes. “Why would I do that? This is the best thing that could have happened to us.”
She can’t believe him. “How can you say that?”
“Oh, like you’re not relieved you won’t have to rely on horse-gate for clicks anymore.”
The anger flares. “Seriously?”
“What?”
“You think I care about the article right now?”
How’s the new chapter of slsosc going? Can you share any little spoilers/snippets to hold us over? 😊
hi anon!! i'm actually very very close to finishing (hopefully in the next few days!!) but here's a little snippet to tide u over hehe
“I’m not trying to do anything—”
“Yes you are, Kie,” and this comes out frustratedly. “You keep trying to make this okay, but it’s not. We can’t fix this. Can’t you just admit that I just fucked this one up like I fuck up everything?”
There’s something to his voice. She glances at him sharply. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“What?”
“Like I fuck up everything. What does that mean?”
JJ smiles at her, ruefully: the shark grin, dead eyes. “We can’t say no one saw this coming.”

She glances at him. “First festival?”
He smiles, a little ruefully. “First live music thing, really.”
He looks almost a little embarrassed about that, like as a rockstar himself he should be well-acquainted with the ins and outs of attending live shows as a spectator and getting stepped on by men twice your size; holds himself almost like he’s preparing Kiara to make fun of him for it.
Kiara’s learned a few things, having spent so long in everyone’s back pockets. Some of the things she’s still learning, and some she hasn’t even begun to learn, but there’s something there, about friends, about family, something she’s not really ever had before, something she’s still not sure if she even has with them. Teenage, bitchy, angry Kiara might have said something, even if she meant it as a joke, but half of kindness is being observant, knowing when to push and when to pull: knowing that to JJ, this probably isn’t very funny at all.
So instead, she just says, simply, “Guess we need to make this one special, then.”
JJ’s returning smile is full of relief, and something like gratitude. “Yeah. Guess we do.”
