Waiter, more experiments please!! I fed into the animation meme mentality with this one! Do not pay me to lip sync- I need to get better at it hhh but yes yes Slugbot yes
My favorite part about this was animating the rot with a pulse! Yayy yippee!!
vv Watcher/hunter discussion vv
my observation of how rot spreads! Rot itself is not contagious in the sense that it can not transfer from creature to creature. Rot is more so like a cancer, in fact, it is this worlds cancer. First, it begins with either an extreme karmic imbalance or malignant development in the body. There are two types of rot, Normal rot and Sentient rot. (I'm going to be talking about Normal Rot because Sentient Rot is a whole mess and that is the watcher's problem) The Rot we find in Five Pebbles begins just like cancer in the real world by a failed experimentation of modifying neural tissue. Rot spreads by consuming all available organic material. It first starts off immobile, but can grow to mobile cysts that consume other organisms by "eating" them. However, this is talking about the rot seen in a giant city-sized purposed organism. On the other hand, a smaller organism like a lizard or slugcat starts the same way with the rot devoloping and consuming them from the inside out. What my point of this is how it does it. It attacks the central nervous system near or on the spine to immobilize the host; working its way up and around the body before growing tendrils that it uses to seek out other organic material.
We see this on said creatures, but also in Five pebbles himself with Unfortunate Development harboring internal stability and functions via gravity stabilizers as well as being located under the Memory Conflux. Additionally, the internal sub-areas of Five Pebbles is very reminiscent of the parts of the brain. By this logic Unfortunate Development would represent a damaged/degrading Cerebellum which the Cerebellum is responsible for voluntary movement and balance. In UI's case it completely eats him out and replaces the organic walls and innards as seen in the grief arc!
