Eli Shane x Boyfriend! Reader

Genre: Headcanons

Reader: Male

Warnings: Not much, some angst/comfort. Eli and (reader) are a couple prior to the series.

•(Reader) and Eli have known each other since they were little, very little, even before Will disappeared. (Reader) likes to remember those times when everything was easier. He had found Eli hiding Berpy in his backpack after school, and instead of being scared or trying to tell on Eli, (Reader) was absolutely fascinated by Berpy, asking Eli questions about what he was, what he ate, and if he wanted to stop by his house to give him something to eat. Thus began a strange story.

•(Reader) was the only person on the surface who wasn't family that Eli let know about Berpy. Together they planned elaborate and safe ways to sneak Berpy into places like school, the bookstore, shops, etc. Eli was generally so happy to finally be able to talk about who he considered his best friend to someone who didn't think he was crazy.

•Of course, (Reader) was a bit odd by normal standards too. Being fascinated by unusual things when you're a little kid is adorable, but when you grow up it's a problem. Eli was the escape from reality that (Reader) needed, someone who didn't see him as a freak or something that needed fixing, but as a friend.

•And to be honest, (Reader) felt good with all that attention, to the point where the feelings of friendship ceased to be just friendship and became something more.

•It took him years to be able to say what he felt, especially because of the constant tragedies that befell Eli, whether it was the disappearance of his father or the abandonment by his mother. (Reader) was always there for him, as a friend of course, without realizing that he was only strengthening their bond.

•I feel like the way these two became boyfriend and girlfriend was super accidental, like, they were both ready to confess and ended up doing it at the same time (and probably doing something stupid in the process).

•Berpy totally had something to do with that "something stupid," but it was the push they needed to be totally honest.

•And bam bam bam, boyfriend and Boyfriend! These were definitely the best months of Eli's life in a long time. He finally felt like he was 100% honest about his feelings, that he could do things a boy his age does with (reader) by his side, do fun things, be affectionate with (reader) without worrying about what people would think. After all, he was her boyfriend! Her boyfriend! He couldn't believe it.

•However, it couldn't all be happiness forever. Eli's 15th birthday arrived, and responsibility called. At least (reader) and his family threw him a farewell party before he had to leave "for another country" (the lie (reader) had told his family about Eli's whereabouts), so they could spend their last hours together having fun and making good memories.

•I won't lie, the goodbye would be incredibly painful for both of them. Part of me thinks Eli would try to leave while (reader) is asleep, to spare him the pain, but Berpy ends up waking him up, and they have one last chat before heading off to Slugterra.

•Once Eli goes to Slugterra, there's nothing left to do but wait, wait for some kind of news, wait for him to return (if he does), wait for SOMETHING to happen.

•But at some point, after months have passed, (reader) starts to get anxious. Questions pile up in his head: What if something bad happened to him down there? What if he's hurt? Or alone? What if he needs help? What if he needs me?

•One night, (reader) simply couldn't bear the anguish any longer. He packed a change of clothes, a loaded gun, a flashlight with spare batteries, his cell phone, a photo of himself and Eli, and began tracing the tunnels Eli must have taken to reach Slugterra.

•In fact, he ran into another boy along the way, someone else also searching for a way there. A boy named Tad, who even had his own slug named Piper.

•Tad knew the city's tunnels well, while (reader) relied on what he had discussed with Eli in the days before his departure. During their search for Slugterra, Tad and (reader) talked a little about their lives. Apparently, they were both looking for someone in Slugterra, but (reader) didn't pry too deeply, realizing it was a sensitive subject for the boy, and he was already helping him a lot, so he kept quiet until they reached the right tunnel.

•It was the worst descent of his life. (Reader) felt like his guts were going to spill out as he descended alongside Tad and Piper. And when they finally touched solid ground, (Reader) almost cried with joy—sweet solid earth! Although he didn't have time for that, not when he had such a landscape before him; Slugterra.

•(Reader) and Tad went their separate ways after that, well, not before (Reader) helped (Reader) find a couple of slugs for himself and make a makeshift slingshot until he found a proper launcher. After all, as beautiful and fascinating as this new world was, it was also incredibly terrifying to navigate it alone! But (Reader) didn't want to hold Tad up any more than he already had, so he accepted the offer and ventured into Slugterra in search of Eli.

•It was much more pleasant spending the first few days alone in Slugterra with the slugs. (Reader) had only interacted with Berpy (and now, Piper), so he got used to treating the slugs as friends, and in return, his slugs really took to him. There was one in particular, a Terror slug that he had cared for since arriving in Slugterra, who seemed to be trying to guide him through the caverns.

•(I like to think that (reader) would name their terror after a horror movie character, like “Scream,” “Freddy,” or “Jason”)

•The day (reader) finally found Eli was, to say the least, emotional.

•Eli had returned from the Eastern Caverns, without really a plan of what to do next other than go back to looking after the 99 caverns, when, once again, some idiot thought it was a good idea to cause trouble.

•However, Eli and the gang didn't even have a chance to do anything before the guy was already on the ground, trembling with fear with a terror slug nearby. Eli heard a very familiar voice call his name, and there he was; (reader), in Slugterra.

•(You can bet the gang plays a lot of lovebird jokes on them for weeks after they reunite, though they're definitely happy for Eli)

•Generally speaking, I'd say (reader) and Eli are on more solid ground than ever. Even if Eli is worried about (reader)'s family, the fact that he came all this way FOR HIM does something to his heart.

•(reader) needs some time to adjust to all this Slugterra stuff and how to live there. Contrary to what it might seem, I don't think he'd be an official member of Shane's gang, mainly because (reader) isn't a fighter. He's more of a brainiac, someone who likes to gather as much information as possible (and to be honest, Eli wouldn't be able to concentrate on the job; they'd retreat as soon as (reader) was in danger, so it's better this way).

•Eli introduces (reader) to all his new slugs! From the classic ones to the elemental ones, all of them. And almost all of them end up attached to (reader) from day one. Eli often jokes that the slugs love (reader) as much as he loves him.

•(reader) ends up being something of a public relations officer for the group and the one who handles the finances, making sure NO ONE wastes money on pointless things (ahem, Pronto ahem).

•Realistically, (reader) is the only one who sees everything Eli has been through as a huge trauma—the whole thing with Dr. Blakk, the eastern caverns, all the enemies he's made because of his father's past. Let's just say (reader) and Eli spend the rest of that day alone, reflecting on it, and how it affected Eli.

•Eli adores (reader)'s slugs, and is especially grateful to his terror slug for helping them reunite. Eli's and (reader's) slugs thankfully get along well, except that (reader's) slugs tend to be a bit overprotective… so yeah, they can't get too close in front of the slugs.

•Overall, Eli is happy that something good is finally happening, and now, no matter what comes, (reader) and he will be able to overcome it, together.

•(What will happen when the events of Into the Shadows occur? That's a topic for another post…)

((I should post more... butttttttttt.... yeah, my grad party is this weekend, so I've been kinda busy. I would have invited all of you, but you live so far away.... I didn't want you to feel obligated to drive the couple hundred miles for me.... Anyways, the next fic is basically what happened after well you know, the smut part. Because I decided to cut that smutty part out and stuff. But yah, don't wanna read? Don't. That's basically it. It's pretty short, so I may post the next fic too.
