I left Long Island this morning. Yesterday’s anticipated blizzard tracked to the west, with sleet and rain coming in from the east to make the day a slushy mess instead of a snowpacalypse. Expecting a major storm, virtually everyplace was closed--it was a boring day on the Island.
Today again I had breakfast in Lindenhurst and afterward tried for better photos at Venetian Shores, subject of this recent post. I had the bright idea to go down the street and photograph St Mark’s lion with the sun behind me--only to realize the lion was now facing away from me.
A canal comes in from Great South Bay and ends near the lions, and a street parallels the canal on either side. I drove down the streets and saw one of the old Venetian-style bridges as I rode over the other. I didn’t find the park I expected at the end of either street, but there was a nice view of the bay, especially with the interesting sky in the aftermath of the storm.
