Demon Slayer Becomes the Best Performing Movie on the Planet

In 2019, Demon Slayer won the Crunchyroll Anime of the Year Award and remained the second most popular anime after Attack on Titan. When it was first announced that a movie based on the anime was going to be released, everyone knew that it would do well; however, no one had expected what was coming. Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train became the best performing film on the planet this weekend. Even the most hardcore Demon Slayer fans would not have imagined this even in their wildest dreams. The success of the movie has again reaffirmed the belief that the anime might be one of the best of the last two decades.

The movie earned a total of $12 million on its first day which was already mind boggling but the next two days proved to be even better. It ended up earning about $44 million in just three days of its release. We get a better idea of what this means when we realize that Frozen 2 only earned $30 million in the same time. The movie went on to make $121 million in 2019, and it appears that Demon Slayer will be able to do better than that.  

The third most profitable movie in 2020 made around $34 million in its entire run, which is less than what Demon Slayer has made already. These comparisons give a perspective of how successful the recent release is, and since it has been the best in the world this weekend, we can expect it to make more records in the coming weeks. It is extraordinary to think that Demon Slayers was released with theatres admitting only half their capacity, what could it have achieved if it was released last year instead?

Demon Slayer first made its appearance as a comic book which has now sold over 100 million copies in digital formats and paperback editions. It was this comic that later inspired the anime that went on to become the best anime of 2019. The success of Demon Slayers last year was a major reason behind the movie which will be released in North America next year, and it appears that it will be just as successful there since it has so many fans. With the ever-growing popularity of the recent movie, we can expect to see more of Kamado Tanjiro, the protagonist fighting to protect her sister, who is now a demon. If you have not yet watched Demon Slayer, then you are missing out on an epic show. Until the movie is released, the anime is a great way of exploring the world of demons.
