It feels like a Duo-Sonic Saturday.
This Survivor from 1957 has a dubious pedigree; possible (probable?) refin, replaced (and reversed, which is actually surprisingly helpful) control pots, but the wood and pickups are original, and once my master luthier @alastair_miller had refretted it, it instantly became a tiny, fun, and easy-to-play rock machine.

This guitar is a bit of a mystery. Technically it's a "reissue", as the originals were made in very limited quantities between 1964 and ~1969, and then another small run appears in 1983 only (or at least I can't find any from 1982 or 1984, anyway…). The hearsay is that Ric came across NOS parts for these in '83 and did a short run to blow them out, but that is 100% unverified. If anyone knows why ES-16s went out of production for 14 or 15 years and then popped up again for a short time in '83, please let me know!

When people ask me which of my vintage guitars is the best I am often tempted to say this 1957 #Fender#DuoSonic. Not because it's super valuable or fancy...it's quite the opposite actually. But it's tiny and sounds great. Plus my stubby digits feel like Hendrix hands wrapped around its neck! Ever since it got a fresh set of frets by my luthier Alastair Miller last year this is one guitar I have not gone a week without playing.
Hmm...that reminds me: I need to take a couple of guitars to Alastair for repairs and setups. Maybe I'll pay him a visit tomorrow...and drop by The Twelfth Fret while I am in the area! 😎

Ever since I got this guitar refretted by Alastair Miller I have been playing it CONSTANTLY. It is especially good for Deep Purple tunes (minus Ritchie's vibrato histrionics ofc. 😉).
