The tone of John’s voice and the glimmer in his eyes were proof enough of the overwhelming emotions he was experiencing. Alice couldn’t help but smile widely, happiness overflowing her thoughts. They were parents. Christ in heaven they were parents. With John there, she didn’t worry about how their own parents would react. She didn’t worry about what scandalous rumors would spread. For the first time in years, she didn’t even worry about when she would be able to serve the Order again. The only thing that mattered was her family.
“Here,” Alice said softly, as not to wake their sleeping daughter. She walked towards her fiance, careful of the squeaking of the floorboards. Holding the small child out towards John, she smiled. “You should get a chance to hold her.”
