Don Fernando de Borbón y Braganza (full name: Fernando Maria Jose) (19 October 1824[1] – 2 January 1861 was a member of the Spanish royal family, and a supporter of Carlism. He lived most of his life in exile with his father and brothers.

Sword 1798-99

Small swords were items of male jewellery. By the 1750s, their elaborate gold and silver hilts, mounted with precious stones and fine enamelling, were the products of the goldsmith and jeweller rather than the swordsmith. They made fitting rewards for distinguished military and naval service. With their blades tucked away inside scabbards, it was their ostentatious and expensive hilts that carried their thrust.

This sword is inscribed: ‘PRESENTED by the Committee of Merchants &c OF LONDON to LIEUT.T FRANCIS DOUGLAS for his Spirited and active conduct on board His Majesty’s Ship the REPULSE. Francis Douglas was rewarded for his role in suppressing a violent mutiny among sailors at the Nore, a Royal Navy anchorage in the Thames Estuary in 1797. According to an account by an eyewitness, published in The Sheerness Guardian 70 years later, the ship, Repulse, made a 'miraculous' escape from the mutineers reaching shore despite receiving 'as was calculated two hundred shot'.

Late 18th Century European smallsword with a chased and pierced steel hilt. The guard is a symmetrical in the 'Pas d'ane' style and decorated with military trophies indicating that this might have belonged to a military officer. The grip is square and bound with alternating copper ribbon and twisted wire. Originally this would most likely been silver plated. 

The hollow ground trefoil blade is by Johann and Clemens Boegel of Solingen and maked with their I.C.B trademark and other motifs typical of the time. 

The term 'Pas d'ane' comes from French and translates as 'donkey's foot' after the shape of the donkey sole. Commentators on smallswords often misidentify the small loops between the guard and the knucklebow and quillon as the 'pas d'ane' when the correct term for them is annulets. 

On Western European smallswords the annulets are a decorative hang over from earlier fencing styles when they were larger to allow the fencers' finger over the crossguard.

Small Sword

Description: The blade is metal. It is unclear what the grip and guard are made of, but the grip is brown and the bell guard is gold. The sword resembles a fencing sword, and the bell guard covers where the pommel would be.

History: Finn acquired this sword from an undisclosed location and attempted to use it to wake Susan from her coma. He regularly uses this sword until it is broken by the Grumbo.

Flame Sword

Description: The sword is blue, made entirely of fire. The blade does not appear to have a bevel nor the grip a pommel, and the guard is a V shape relative to the blade pointing up.

History: This sword was created from a small dagger Finn had been carrying when he transformed into Flame Finn in the corrupted Fire Kingdom. He uses it until Lumpy Space Princess cures him, at which point the sword disappears.

Sword Storage

Being the owner of several pokey, stabby things, I have - for a long time - sought some sort of storage solution for such things. For my personal stock, a friend gifted me an awful, hideous and most aggressively garish golf bag I have ever seen. Honestly, I adore it - it’s a pink, purple and grey plaid. It is great for transport, however, my personal inventory is grown larger than the bag can comfortably house and gets very, very heavy to lug all of them around. Especially when I don’t need *all* of them. So, not a great long term solution.

I am also in custody of the festival armory as well.

All of this has lead to a copious amount of swords in a variety of places.

Low and behold, a fight director I am friends with - shared their solution. Industrial shelves.

I’m rather pleased with how well this worked out. And now that I’ve filled up this one, I’m going to need another. >.>

(Port Eye has a very dungeon like basement, but it’s climate controlled so I can’t complain too much)
