"Happy Halloween mister vampire," she said brightly in her red riding hood costume. "Don't bite me okay?"
"...you're very random...", he murmured with a roll of his eyes, "...happy halloween".
Trying to keep from crying, the little girl rubbed her eyes with one hand, but moisture leaked out anyway as she whimpered from her skinned up knees and elbows. It wasn’t that it hurt really, it was how it happened that was about to make her cry.
"The k-kids at…*whimper* s-school..they pushed m-me and…*whimper* c-called me a f-freak," she whimpered then latched onto his leg and started crying.
●⊱ He growled at the sight of her injury. Even if they were small scratches the reason as to how she got them pissed him off. No child, no matter what the age, did not deserve to be bullied. "Hey, don't cry. That's all they want ta do is to see ya break." He lifted her head to wipe away her tears with the pads of his fingers, being mindful not to scratch her with his claws. He placed a hand on the top of her head. "Why the hell did they call you a freak?"
The small child’s face completely lit up when he showed himself and proved she had been correct in her feeling once again. It had been a gift she had as long as she could remember and one that somehow could just use without thinking about it. It was something she kept mostly quiet about however after the relentless teasing and picking on she’d gotten from other kids who were supposed to be friends, but she could trust him with it. She knew she could.
"I had a feeling it was you and they’re always right," she answered brightly then tilted her head and looked up at him in child like wonder. "You’re a lot taller than in my dreams though."
●⊱ "Oh am I?" He asked, crouching before the mystified child. He knew he should not be interfering. Who knew what his actions would do to the past and her future? The hanyou had been content with watching Kagome from afar, but she proved to be smarter than he originally thought. "Well ya can't go wrong with trustin' yer instincts."
