Oh.. It seemed that the Shadow had pushed his advantage over the strange interlopers into this dream. It seems he was right, in a way.
“It would seem we have misunderstood this situation, somewhat. For that, I apologize.”
The tall man took a deep breath, and looked out at the other students.
“We have also put a lot on your shoulders just now without explaining ourselves, and for that I apologize once more.”
“But we’re here to help you escape this nightmare, that I promise. I’ll even pinky-swear!”
“And to that effect, you need to know that this shadow is not telling you the full truth. We misunderstood the circumstances, but our goal has not changed.”
“It’s true that this world was built around the real Taguchi Arimoto’s soul, by the powers of those cursed sisters. They make contracts with people in despair, and claim their souls in exchange.”
“So once he was satisfied, they would take his soul, and this world would collapse, taking everyone with it. They held that power.”
“But you’ve taken that power for yourself, haven’t you, Shadow?”
“You’re a big liar-pants! You were gonna let everyone vote for you, and then what? If you die, the dream doesn’t die! And if the dream doesn’t die, then you won’t die!”
She stopped huffing for a moment to rub her forehead. Did she make her own head spin there?
“Yes, of course. That sounds like a paradox, and perhaps it is. But it is still the truth.”
“You have to adhere to the result of this trial. But as long as the world exists, you will not die. The only way to do both is to vote for Taguchi Arimoto."
“But the Shadow is wrong. None of you will die. None of you have to die. If you want proof, then stand and listen to our words. For we have not come alone.”
