OUR TEENY TINY HOME! APARTMENT THERAPY SMALL COOL CONTEST 2014
LIVING ROOM
Our living room kitchen. I guess you could call it "open concept." We had the bookcase built by Gothic Cabinet Craft and painted it Gentleman's Grey//Benjamin Moore. I found the antique mantel on Craigslist for $200. The table is from the 50s. I love it because it converts into a full size dining table or a half desk. I found it on my favorite site, eBay :)
KITCHEN
We love our kitchen. We renovated the kitchen when we bought the apartment. The previous owner also renovated it, but it was completely non-functional. It didn't have a full size refrigerator, just a mini fridge. I didn't have an oven, only a microwave and a cook top. The sink was a bar sink and you could barley fit a plate in it. We gutted it.
The refrigerator is Summit, the stove is 24" Bertazzoni, The sink is Kraus, the faucet is Delta, the counter tops are Caesarstone (Frosty Carrina), the dishwasher is Bosh 300 series, the microwave is GE.
We wanted a hand cut subway tile look, but didn't want to pay for it. I was able to find some great irregular tiles at a place in Brooklyn:www.classictilenewyork.com/product/39-subway-tile/2375-3x...
I didn't want to clutter up the counter space with a dish drying rack. I ended up making one to fit on the 6" X 24" space to the left of the sink using a pot lid organizer from ikea.
WIDE ANGLE LIVING ROOM/KITCHEN
Kitchen wall is painted Blackened//Farrow & Ball
WIDE ANGLE LIVING ROOM/KITCHEN
Although the window trim looks original, it's something we added. I'm lucky to have a very handy father who was able enhance what once was a metal frame. We painted the trim Cornforth Grey//Farrow and ball.
The couch is from ABC: Cobble Hill Prescott Sofa 77"
LIVING ROOM WITH TABLE UP
Our convertible table. It can be half size or full size. Normally we just raise it to the half size and eat dinner on the couch :)
The lucite italian folding chairs are vintage. They were purchased at a flea market.
THE "MINI BAR"
HALLWAY
You can see our utility closet sticking out at the back right of this picture, just after the refrigerator. We have our combo washer/dryer unit inside. Above that is our coat closet, and above that is additional storage. We also keep our broom, swifer, step ladder (i could not live without this as I'm 5'3"), laundry detergent, iron, ironing board, tool kit, printer, ETC.
THE "BEDROOM"
The previous owner came up with the floor plan of the apartment. When we bought it, the bed was only open at the end. There was under bed storage, but you could only access it by lifting up the mattress and then lifting the trap door = not easy.
We opened up the side wall, added the sliding doors to the outside (The Sliding Door Company), and our contractor added the accordion doors at the bottom.
We could not live in the apartment without access to the under bed storage. We keep our vacuum, the laundry, our suitcases, our off season cloths, and mannnny other things under here.
"BEDROOM"
We love our cozy nook bed. It feels separate from the rest of the living space. We both have shelves to put our things. It's a "California queen" to accommodate Rob's 6'5" frame.
DRAWERS AND SHELVES AT FOOT OF BED
DRESSING AREA/CLOSETS
It's hard to see, but these are our closets. The closet on the left is our shoe closet with 12" deep from floor to ceiling shelving. Our ceilings are 9'5." On the inside of the doors, I store my jewelery. I just attached some command hooks!
The closet on the right is where we hang our clothes. It's triple hung. At the back of the closet there is also floor to ceiling shelving. We keep additional shoes, handbags, etc back there.

THE HIDDEN KITTY LITTER BOX
This is probably the most ingenious part of our apartment. My dad installed it. We cut a hole into the side of the existing vanity, and converted the third drawer into our cat's bathroom. It's super easy to clean her box. Just pull out the drawer and scoop! TMI??
BUILT IN STORAGE ABOVE TOILET
We really can't take credit for the design of the bathroom (only the kitty litter box). The previous owner renovated it, and did a spectacular job. There's built in shelving everywhere, in the shower, next to the sink and above the toilet.
We did reface and paint the cabinets. They use to be white and press board = no no in an area with lots of moisture. Cabinet color is Benjamin moore//Trout Gray.
