BATHROOM RE-DO ON A BUDJET:
This bathroom was in need of a facelift, but there was only enough room in the budget for a facial. The best thing you can do to inexpensively spruce up a room is paint it.
The walls have been painted “Slip” by Benjamin Moore. The bathroom door has been painted with Black semi gloss. On top of the walls, I drew a design using Sharpie Oil Based Paint Markers. The tutorial for the design can be found here. Honestly, it wasn’t very easy! If you don’t have a steady hand, you’re not great with a ruler/level, and you are a perfectionist...I would not recommend this project!
Total Cost: Less than $60 dollars!

CHANDELIER FROM IKEA
LIBERTY OF LONDON CHAIR FROM TARGET
BEFORE PICTURES:
We upholstered the ledge of our bed with leather! Here's how:
Materials needed:
Leather
Upholstery nails
Hammer
Heavy duty glue (Goop or E6000)
Staple gun
Butter knife or stapler remover
Razor blade
How to:
Cut leather to size
Apply glue to backside of leather and to the surface you are adhering the leather to
Follow glue instructions. I used Goop. It said let both surfaces dry for 2 minutes
Firmly press the leather down on the surface you are adhering it to making sure there are no gaps or wrinkles
Using staple gun, secure leather in place. This ensures that the leather doesn't shrink back
Let dry over night
Remove staples
Add upholstery nails where wanted
Cut off any excess leather with razor blade
OUR TEENY TINY HOME! APARTMENT THERAPY SMALL COOL CONTEST 2014
LIVING ROOM
Our living room kitchen. I guess you could call it "open concept." We had the bookcase built by Gothic Cabinet Craft and painted it Gentleman's Grey//Benjamin Moore. I found the antique mantel on Craigslist for $200. The table is from the 50s. I love it because it converts into a full size dining table or a half desk. I found it on my favorite site, eBay :)
KITCHEN
We love our kitchen. We renovated the kitchen when we bought the apartment. The previous owner also renovated it, but it was completely non-functional. It didn't have a full size refrigerator, just a mini fridge. I didn't have an oven, only a microwave and a cook top. The sink was a bar sink and you could barley fit a plate in it. We gutted it.
The refrigerator is Summit, the stove is 24" Bertazzoni, The sink is Kraus, the faucet is Delta, the counter tops are Caesarstone (Frosty Carrina), the dishwasher is Bosh 300 series, the microwave is GE.
We wanted a hand cut subway tile look, but didn't want to pay for it. I was able to find some great irregular tiles at a place in Brooklyn:www.classictilenewyork.com/product/39-subway-tile/2375-3x...
I didn't want to clutter up the counter space with a dish drying rack. I ended up making one to fit on the 6" X 24" space to the left of the sink using a pot lid organizer from ikea.
WIDE ANGLE LIVING ROOM/KITCHEN
Kitchen wall is painted Blackened//Farrow & Ball
WIDE ANGLE LIVING ROOM/KITCHEN
Although the window trim looks original, it's something we added. I'm lucky to have a very handy father who was able enhance what once was a metal frame. We painted the trim Cornforth Grey//Farrow and ball.
The couch is from ABC: Cobble Hill Prescott Sofa 77"
LIVING ROOM WITH TABLE UP
Our convertible table. It can be half size or full size. Normally we just raise it to the half size and eat dinner on the couch :)
The lucite italian folding chairs are vintage. They were purchased at a flea market.
THE "MINI BAR"
HALLWAY
You can see our utility closet sticking out at the back right of this picture, just after the refrigerator. We have our combo washer/dryer unit inside. Above that is our coat closet, and above that is additional storage. We also keep our broom, swifer, step ladder (i could not live without this as I'm 5'3"), laundry detergent, iron, ironing board, tool kit, printer, ETC.
THE "BEDROOM"
The previous owner came up with the floor plan of the apartment. When we bought it, the bed was only open at the end. There was under bed storage, but you could only access it by lifting up the mattress and then lifting the trap door = not easy.
We opened up the side wall, added the sliding doors to the outside (The Sliding Door Company), and our contractor added the accordion doors at the bottom.
We could not live in the apartment without access to the under bed storage. We keep our vacuum, the laundry, our suitcases, our off season cloths, and mannnny other things under here.
"BEDROOM"
We love our cozy nook bed. It feels separate from the rest of the living space. We both have shelves to put our things. It's a "California queen" to accommodate Rob's 6'5" frame.
DRAWERS AND SHELVES AT FOOT OF BED
DRESSING AREA/CLOSETS
It's hard to see, but these are our closets. The closet on the left is our shoe closet with 12" deep from floor to ceiling shelving. Our ceilings are 9'5." On the inside of the doors, I store my jewelery. I just attached some command hooks!
The closet on the right is where we hang our clothes. It's triple hung. At the back of the closet there is also floor to ceiling shelving. We keep additional shoes, handbags, etc back there.

THE HIDDEN KITTY LITTER BOX
This is probably the most ingenious part of our apartment. My dad installed it. We cut a hole into the side of the existing vanity, and converted the third drawer into our cat's bathroom. It's super easy to clean her box. Just pull out the drawer and scoop! TMI??
BUILT IN STORAGE ABOVE TOILET
We really can't take credit for the design of the bathroom (only the kitty litter box). The previous owner renovated it, and did a spectacular job. There's built in shelving everywhere, in the shower, next to the sink and above the toilet.
We did reface and paint the cabinets. They use to be white and press board = no no in an area with lots of moisture. Cabinet color is Benjamin moore//Trout Gray.

APARTMENT PRE-RENOVATIONS
PRE-RENOVATED KITCHEN:
While it looked nice, it didn't function. It didn’t have a full size refrigerator, just a mini fridge. I didn’t have an oven, only a microwave and a cook top. The sink was a bar sink and you could barley fit a plate in it. Also, the bottom cabinets were 35" deep. They were very obtrusive and made the living space feel smaller.
Turn a bland door into a glam door!
Our old apartment in Long Island City had four bi-fold doors in the entryway. I wanted to create a dramatic entrance and these horribly boring doors were not helping. I painted, but the space still didn't have the "wow" factor I was craving.
I knew I needed a metallic element to add an extra touch of glamour and luxury to the space. I ended up creating faux panels on the each door with 1/2 inch gold film tape. The film tape is extremely affordable, easy to apply, and easy to take off. Just decide how large you want your panels to be and start taping!

We went antiquing in Hudson, NY today, about 2hrs from NYC. This picture was taken at an antique shop on Warren street. Love the reclaimed floors, the window, and the light in this room!
My Drybar blowout. The perfect Friday afternoon!
Hallway Moon, inspired by the cover of the West Elm catalog!
To draw a perfect circle: Stand still with a piece of chalk in your hand, rotate your arm all the way around. Do this three times to make a significant outline.
To shade: Start filling in the left side, and move to the right. Blend with your hands. To add dimension, use a damp paper towel and blot. Use your fingers to blur the outline of the moon and give it the "glowing" effect!

We've been so busy settling into our new apartment, but we wanted to share some photos of how we decorated it for Christmas! I got on a bit of a snowflake cutting kick and nearly turned into Buddy the Elf! Most of the decorations were inspired by Pinterest and can be found on this pinboard! Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!!!
This weekend, I finally got to wear my vintage Elissa of California maxi skirt! I purchased the skirt from eBay seller 2tryhard. Pair it with a chunky sweater or jean jacket for the perfect fall look. I found the same skirt here! Happy shopping!
My most treasured vintage pieces are the ones that were made by my grandfather. My grandfather, Nick Bueti, was an expert tailor. His career as a tailor began in Italy at the age of 12. In 1938, he moved to America where he continued to refine his craft and in 1952 he opened his own shop in Chappaqua, NY where he worked for 50 years. To commemorate his birthday, my family and I pulled together a few of the garments he made. My love for these pieces isn't only because my grandfather made them, but because each garment is meticulously crafted unlike anything you will find in today's marketplace. All of the work on these garments was done by hand. From the cutting of each pattern, to the stitching of each button hole, an extraordinary amount of time and care was put into each design. The superior quality of these garments has allowed them to stand the test of time; I can't wait to wear the wool cognac jacket, that he made for my grandmother in the 1960s, this fall. My grandfather passed away on March 27, 2012 at the age of 91. My family feels so fortunate to have a little piece of him to hold on to.

I'm sorry skinny jeans, we're giving you the boot! Seriously, how have we let this unflattering trend continue for so long! If your legs aren't as long as a giraffe, and your tush isn't as tight as the girls on the USA Olympic gymnastics team, then this cut of pants probably isn't for you! Yet, we're all wearing them! If anyone can honestly say they've had an enjoyable experience trying on these sausage casing like pants without breaking a sweat and/or crashing into a wall, then you let us know! So let's put an end to this trend! Bell bottom and boot cut pants are probably the most flattering style on everyone! They're also the perfect way to add a vintage flare to any outfit!! Here are some of our favorites for FW2012! Wear them with a cute pair of booties and you'll be set for fall! Find all the links here!
