Small Town Crime is an excellent thriller murder mystery currently hanging out on Netflix. I really dig John Hawkes so that’s the whole reason I watched in the first place. Waking on morning after a bend a disgraced, alcoholic ex-cop discovers a horribly beaten and battered unconscious young woman on the side of the road, who he rushes to the ER. In an act of redemption, and against his former police coworkers, our anti-hero sets a off to find out who the perpetrators are, any way he can. He soon discover that this journey could not only be detrimental to him, but his family as well. Hawkes gives the character a real drunken bum, more sad than awful, yet you still like him kind of performance. You can see him trying to claw his way back, yet he continues to drink, even when he finds something worthwhile to do. It’s confusing, but interesting to watch how he changes... even the slightest bit. There is an awesome small role of the woman’s grandfather played intensely by Robert Forester. The bad guy, played in deliciously evil fashion by one Jeremy Rashford, is a brutal, unflinching bastard, who seems more than happy to kill anything in his path and man, you just hope he gets what’s coming... It’s one of those films that as the end approaches you get tense, because you get that feeling no one is safe. Also Anthony Anderson is perfect as his extremely positive and supportive enabler brother in law, Octavia Spenser is in it too, and sadly is her role very is limited. Small Town Crime is a kinda dark, a bit rough, sometimes very tense, old fashion detective story. I really like it. #smalltowncrime #johnhawkes #anthonyanderson #jeremyrachford #octaviaspencer #nelmsbros #crime #thriller #detective #crimemovie #mystery #movies #review #reviews #movienews #moviereview #moviereviews #netflix #netflixandchill #frontrowflix #movieblog #filmblog
