It’s day 29 of the #smarchvinylchallenge by @brandudesrecordvault: Kids Say The Darndest Things: A Young Artist. Billie Eilish - Happier Than Ever (Darkroom, 2021) Only just 21, Eilish has already established herself as a creative force with remarkable popular success married to boundary-pushing creativity. Seemingly incapable of being inauthentic, she also uses great artistry, in collaboration with her brother Finneas, to alchemize her life into musical gold. Both of her albums made it into my Top 25 and I would be listening g even if she wasn’t a multi-platinum selling, stadium-filling artist. Bob Dylan - John Wesley Harding (Columbia, 1969/86) If you take a close look at the first picture, you’ll notice my father’s florid and somewhat satirical inscription: “To my Valentine, Normacita, Bob Dylan, & and your Lord & Master Rabainu Chaim Shatan, N.Y.C., 2/14/69.” Yes, my parents were big fans of 60s music, especially The Beatles, Dylan, and Simon & Garfunkel. It’s day 23 of the #smarchvinylchallenge by @brandudesrecordvault: Hypersomnia: A Sleeper Band/Album. Claire Hamill - October (Island, 1973) Never heard of her? Neither had I! I don’t even think Chris Blackwell mentioned it in his memoir, The Islander, but I was attracted by the production credit on the back: Paul Samwell Smith. I have a fascination with the 70s careers of ex-Yardbirds and, while everyone knows what Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, and Eric Clapton were up to, some may have forgotten that Keith Relf founded Renaissance and Samwell Smith became a successful producer with Paul Simon’s There Goes Rhymin’ Simon being one of his biggest albums. He and Hamill bring a wide variety to these subtle songs, from spare to epic, making October a minor prog-folk classic. Hamill, who was once a member of Wishbone Ash, is still with us, posting on Facebook and YouTube.
