Lets talk about Smart 911
it’s a free website where you can put in information that is only available to participating 911 centers. It’s not sold to solicitors or anything like that. You can add as much or as little information as you’d like, things like address, emergency contact, pet information, emergency medical info, what kind of car you drive, etc. What happens is when you call 911 from your cell phone, it’ll pop up a handy box that displays the information you’ve provided to help first responders find you in an emergency.
*** If you are, have been, or are worried about being a victim of domestic violence, have a medical condition, or some other situation where it’s not safe for you to call 911 and talk to a person this can be a huge help to police! You can provide your address, add a note that pops up and informs the 911 call taker that it’s not always safe for you to call or whatever you want them to know. Even if you can’t stay on the phone, that info pops up and they have a starting point.
Many agencies also now have text to 911, but neither texting nor smart 911 is available in every city/jurisdiction. The only downfall to Smart 911 is that you have to log in at least 1 time every 6 months to keep your account active. Not that hard to do, they even send you reminders. It only takes a few minutes to sign up and in my experience it’s 100% worth it. I’ve got my info in there, photos of my pets in case of a fire or something like that, I attached a floor plan of the house, gave my emergency medical info, etc. Honestly, I encourage everyone to sign up because you never know when shit might hit the fan.
