In this context, various companies have launched indoor/outdoor air pollutants measuring devices. Aeroqual introduced a device named “AQM 65” which WIFI, Ethernet and 2G GPRS network enabled outdoor air quality monitoring device for detecting volatile organic compounds (VOCs), Particulate Matter (PM), Ozone, NOx, NO2, CO, CO2, H2S and various detrimental gaseous pollutants. Their device can notify the zone wise concentration level of the air pollutants to the urban people. Each device supports a web based platform for publishing information to the social networks or urban city apps. But it would be advantageous if this Air Quality Index (AQI) monitoring device can support cloud based data sharing platform to foretell short term or long term weather reports. Furthermore the device that can provide the additional real-time “green route” driving information for the urban citizens is in demand.
Sensor used and Circuitry: “SES URBAN” will be developed as a mobile app that can connect with the these AQI monitoring devices by the enabled network and these smart devices will be planned to mount on the bus stops, shopping malls, rail stations or any public placed which will be authorized by the government authority. These AQI monitoring devices will be designed by Atmega or ARM cortex-M microcontroller where computation to detect air pollutants is feasible. A GPS tracker will be used for reading the position which can easily interface with the designated microcontroller platform. Radio frequency module is used for data transmission over dedicated cloud servers. Enable sensors are installed as per the requirement for measuring air pollutants.
Usefulness: This application model will be helpful for the urban people within the next couple of decades.
Elder people will get information about the detrimental air pollutants especially at morning or evening time
Parents should bypass the most air pollutant zone to protect their children from inhalation of harmful pollutants
Altruistic citizens should avoid most pollutant roads that means to control real-time traffic congestion
No individual cost is required because each device has to be installed by the government authority or third party government undertaking organizations
Each device should be GPS enabled so the air pollutants concentration information can be easily tracked and visualized using marker graph or heat graph
Long-Term Exposures:
Long term usability of this device will be controlled the premature death of the urban citizens from the heart failure or chronic heart diseases like lung cancer
The application software will support the urban people for real-time green vehicle route planning
Limitations: There are some limitations for using the application.
One time infrastructure costs and life-time maintenance costs are required to use this device
High speed and energy efficient internet service is required for better performance of this application
Each users or subscribers require a valid email address to support this application
Only web-enabled phone or smart phone users can use this applications
Conclusions and Future directions in various research fields:
Green Vehicle Route Planning: This mobile app can be helpful for the drivers specially private or cab drivers, to reduce fuel consumption without significantly increasing travel time
Green Environment: This device will provide sufficient air pollutants information to the government authority which will be effective for air purifications
Environmental Remediation: Further research will be required for chemical or sensor industries after detecting unfamiliar detrimental environmental pollutants which lead to form various chronic diseases
Research on Nanotechnology: Advancement of Nanotechnology will improve the performance of catalysts which can transform vapours escaping from the vehicle's tailpipe into salubrious air.
