Student Media Congress 2015
Last October 16 and 17, students, trainees, and professionals from different schools and institutions around the country have gathered in DLSU to participate in a two-day event consisting of seminars and workshops, spearheaded by invited professionals from the different fields. Student Media Congress, with its theme: Experiencing Media Dynamics, invited 70 known media experts in the industry and offered 69 talks and workshops which included different media categories.
On its first day, four media experts gave their respective talks about their field expertise. The invited speakers were Pia Hontiveros ot CNN, Alexandra Priet-Romualdez of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Dennis Lim of the Digital Media Services at ABS-CBN, Merlee Jayme of DM9, and was Reynaldo “Ka Rene” Sta. Cruz of DZBB. Each of them provided a peek into the industry as they shared their experiences and projects, giving the audience a brief look about what they are to face.
To end the first half of the day, Anna Loraine Centeno, director of the DLSU Student Media office, presented the Student Media Congress summation and gave thanks to the 1,208 delegates from 75 schools, colleges, universities from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Delegates who have chosen competing workshops such as News Writing, Feature Writing, Sports Writing, Editorial/Opinion Writing, Creative Writing, Pagsulat ng Lathalain, Photojournalism, Magazine Layout, and Conceptual Photography will continue on with their seminars. Each workshop has speakers and the announcements of the winners for each event are to be announced and awarded on the closing ceremony of the second day of event.
SMC’s second day brings a multitude of seminars and workshops—both interactive and hands-on. Delegates walk around the DLSU campus in search for the assigned rooms and/or auditoriums. Among the non-competing workshops were Television Production with Cathy Garcia-Molina, The Secret Weapon for Breaking News and Reporting with Mike Enriquez, Calligraphy Design with Abbey Sy, Videography with Dan Villegas, and many more.
