The Smileful List -- 10/18/11

smileful: (adjective) full of smiles, happy, in a state of happiness or peace, contented. 1. not wearing pants. 2. chocolate chip cookies. 3. oversized plaid shirts.  4. getting enough sleep. 5. when people greet you with a kiss on the cheek. 6. freckles. 7. well-hung-heart. (new obsession.) 8. tasteful dreadlocks. 9. shy people with secret senses of humor. 10. clean laundry. 11. people who want nothing more than to make and share art. they're the best. 12. the nifty fish-shaped and music-note-shaped ice cube trays that my sister uses. 13. The Science of Sleep. awkward, adorable and eloquent people. movies that require a lot of thinking. 14. helicopters. watching them fly and land and take-off. they're unwieldy as &%#^. 15. leg warmers. having occasion to wear leg warmers. 16. making my own adventures. 17. poetry. (as if I'd go a whole day without smiling at poetry....) 18. ordering weird things on amazon, cuz I'm props designing a show. 19. parking garages. the view from the top, at night. le sigh. 20. (It's been too long.) 1) maple/brown sugar oatmeal. 2) tea shops where the tea comes in big unfathomable pots. 3) latkes. 4) cast bonding. 5) bouts of productivity. 6) boots. 7) anchors. 8) BTSTU. 9) Regina Spektor. She can do no wrong. 10) train tracks. trains. trains of thought. "Meet Virginia" -- Train. 11) apple trees. apple picking. apple cider. cider donuts. 12) street lamps. 13) finding things that you'd already accepted as gone. 14) glitter-spray. 15) gourds. 16) piecing together your evening, based on what's left out on your porch in the morning. 17) candles. lighters. wax. 18) hands. lines. 19) warm, fuzzy, knee-high socks. 20) new music. fly musicians. 21) keys. key rings. skeleton keys. 22) the phrase "swagariffic." 23) foliage. oh god. 24) Karl. My plant. and all his leafy glory. 25) speakers. when they sound spectacular. i.e. my speakers. sound. spectacular. 26) salted caramel mocha. new thing at starbucks. #coffeegasm. 27) the nonlectures of e.e. cummings. 28) magnets. smileful: (adjective) full of smiles, happy, in a state of happiness or peace, contented. 1. the word "of." It's a lovely word. 2.naming things which don't require names. 3. well-executed doodles 4. dixie cups. 5. typing with one hand so i can keep petting my dog. 6. the way some holes fill themselves in over time. 7. free-writes. 8. ceramic mugs. particularly ugly, chipped or somehow eclectic ones. 9. padiddles. calling them when in the car with no one but yourself. 10. full moons. 11. the moon in general. 12. overheard conversations. hearsay in general. 13. cold tile floor in contrast with carpet 14. oriental rugs. 15. stuffed animals. (the kind that guards the edge of your bed from monsters.) 16. lewis carol. 17. e.e. cummings (deserves his own list.)

smileful: (adjective) full of smiles, happy, in a state of happiness or peace, contented. 1. sincerely happy receptionists. 2. when people invite you to stay at their home. and mean it. 3. freckles. 4. kaleidoscopes.  5. old-style cars, driven by interesting folk. 6. running/smashing-into-one-another hugs. particularly in public places. 7. bookstores. 8. the people who work in bookstores.  9. making friends with spunky old people. 10. ice cream before dinner 11. white chocolate covered pretzels. 12. Jack's Drum Shop. 13. thick glasses that magnify your eyes. 14. Tina Fey. Bossypants. 15. smelling every candle in a gift store. 16. moleskin 17. the fact that my phone auto-corrects "moleskin" to "molesting."  18. wet dog noses. 19. the way my dog curls up at my feet, then stares at me expectantly. 20.  awkward colored nail polish. on muh feetz. 21. spontaneous plans. spontaneity in general.  22. making lists of smileful things.

smileful: (adjective) full of smiles, happy, in a state of happiness or peace, contented. 1. fresh. mango. slices. 2. Will & Grace 3. *Braveheart's waggy stump-tail.  4. Adult Swim commercials. 5. Old men wearing aviators. 6. Big puffy clouds. 7. Singing in the car. At stoplights. Visibly. 8. Hitting the yellow lights perfectly, and gliding through intersections. doing the hand-kiss/celing-punch in appreciation. 9. show tunes. out of context. 10. the unnecessary shape of syrup bottles. 11. The color green. (It's everywhere. good choice in a favorite color, self.) 12. wearing the same comfy jeans. 2 days in a row. comfy jeans > hygiene. 13. oatmeal. that shit's delicious. 14. folk songs. swoon. 15. Amanda Palmer. (just a general thanks for existing.) 16. drippy ice cream cones. complicated ice cream flavors. 17. walking through Williams Sonoma. Playing with all the cooking gadgets. Imagining all the wonderful food I could make happen. 18. iced tazo passion tea, sweetened. *Braveheart is a dog.

Today I wrote down all the wonderful simple things that made me smileful.   1. breakfast sandwiches done right. 2. blackberries. 3. three-year-old birkenstocks. worn in perfectly. 4. perfume samples in trashy magazines. 5. how cold the wall is next to my bed. 6. hammocks. 7. salt water/post-ocean hair. 8. after 7 years, my dog has learned how to play fetch. i.e. drop the ball, rather than demand I chase him for it. 9. crossword puzzles. 10. scarves. and how they make even the sloppiest of outfits instantly passable. 11.
