This is the song I have on my alarm to wake me up every morning for work ❤ I always wake up with a smile
I've been thinking over the past week about my New Year's Resolution from last year, and in my search to articulate how terribly I failed, I came up with no words. And today it dawned on me that it's because I didn't really fail. No, I did not do a good job at maintaining the positivity blog. I didn't even do an OKAY job. But the real resolution wasn't the blog. The real resolution was to be a more joyful person, in the broadest sense of the word. I've done that! I have actually fulfilled a New Year's Resolution! In doing so, I've been led to this year's resolution. This past year was about feeling more joy and gratitude. So, this next year is going to be all about SHARING more joy and gratitude. I was talking to a friend recently, who is just obnoxiously perky. He's so upbeat I want to punch him (I'll start on the positivity tomorrow, shut up.) He said this: "When you greet everyone like they're exactly the person you want to see that moment, then maybe they can BE that person. Nobody is ever going to be worth your time if you don't let them." Now, I'm opposed to letting this guy be a role model for me, but he does have a point. I guess some people would summarize it as a "fake-it-'til-you-feel-it" mentality, but it goes beyond that. It's about actually training yourself to look for the good in what - or who - is standing in front of you. That is a talent that I sorely lack. I mean, I usually don't even notice the good in the people I CHOOSE to have around me, let alone the ones that just kinda show up. So this year, that's the goal. This past year, I became (and am still becoming) a more joyful and grateful version of myself. Now, it's time to spread that and hope that sharing the progress just begets more progress. Happy belated new year, all! May your year be the less-disappointing version of what we all want the holidays to be.
San Diego in Winter is not very wintery. Smileworthy though. :)
