heyyy, this is late because rl got in the way as per usual. but thanks for these!
friday: most self-indulgent fic you have ever posted?
oh lordy. it is most definitely one of my many smutty fics lol. I won’t go into any detail but it’s either one of my first lauryssa fics (distance) or my only smoaking canarrow (i.e. sara/oliver/felicity) fic (and all I want is that you extend your hand to me). I literally wrote it for me, myself and I. which is why it is highly amusing that one has nearly 4k hits and the other is close to 8k.
may: a fic you have regretted posting?
uh see above? the second one, to be precise. :P
september: share a comment or review which still warms your heart?
guhh did you mean every single comment I’ve ever received? esp from you my dear :)
but I mean I love this one because any reviewer that says that they reread my fic even once is my favourite kind of reader tbh.
then this one by @sophiainspace and this one by you both are with lines being quotes back to me and I can’t emphasises enough how much I love that. :D
1. Post a quote or short excerpt from your early days of writing/ARTING.(I’m talking old fanfics/ART, slash fics/ART, original fic/ART, etc., that are barely edited and have a ton of technical errors and misspelled words.) This is the cringe part. Don’t edit anything! Let it be horrendous. Don’t Panic.
2. Post a quote or short excerpt from one of your most recent works/WIPs. Something that you’re proud of. Something that you’ve written/ARTED that makes you smile when you read it.
3. Tag a writer/artist you admire, anyone who you think is amazing, new friends, followers, writeblrs, anyone who you’d like to know more about. If you think someone is a great writer/artist and you want to see how they’ve developed their skills, tag them! Everyone started somewhere.
1. Hmm. I have been writing for a really long time, and I could pull out some of my really early original stuff, but I’ll stick to fanfic. The first fandom I ever wrote for was Airwolf, which had been off air for quite a while before I got into the fandom and so my audience was tiny. Here’s an excerpt from Wolf’s Bane, which is still up on Fanfic.net if anyone is feeling masochistic enough to want to read the rest of it.
Hawke was pulling on his shirt whilst finishing a mouthful of toast when he caught the disturbance in the air that meant he would have company. His friend, Dominic had often teased him about his sensitive hearing and his supposed sixth sense for the arrival of a helicopter at the lake, but the warning it gave him often proved useful. Hawke was not expecting any guests this morning and it would be unlikely that Dominic would visit him so early. That left only one person and when a white helicopter landed beside the lake he knew that his intuition had been correct. He moved into the kitchen area and put on a fresh pot of coffee.
Knowing that the door was always unlocked, Michael Archangel didn’t bother knocking, but breezed in followed by his shadow, Marella. Both were dressed completely in white, which was the uniform of the section that Michael headed up at the Firm. The only part of Michael’s dress that was not white was the black left lens of his glasses and it stood out starkly against his otherwise perfectly white well-tailored suit. He walked with a confident step and it was only the cane that he carried which belied the fact that his leg was badly injured. Marella wore a white flight suit and was not only Michael’s pilot but was also his closest aide.
“You’re too late for breakfast, Michael,” said Hawke.
“I didn’t come all the way up here for breakfast with you, Hawke,” replied Michael, with a slight tone of annoyance in his voice.
Wow, that’s not good. Kind of wooden and there’s so much I would change in it if I was writing it now.
2. I’m never happy with my writing, but I have definitely improved over the years. So, here’s a bit from, Gently As She Goes. Rip and Gideon have been trying to find each and suffering from memory issues after a mission gone wrong in ancient Denmark.
“I think you’ve been going for joyrides to the nearby town and pretending to be a dragon,” said Rip.
Oh dear. That doesn’t sound good.
“Well, it’s certainly not going to help the timeline,” said Rip. “Bring up your diagnostics.”
Rip scanned down the list of malfunctioning systems. His head was killing him. It was getting so bad that he was actually considering throwing up because of the pain. He could hardly read the screen. He closed his eyes for a second, trying to get them to behave enough that he could read the list.
Something caught his eye.
“Gideon, stop!” he said, sharply. The scrolling list came to a halt. He read the entries again. “Shut down all psychic systems immediately. You are not to connect with me or any other humans that come into range.”
Yes, Captain. Is there a problem?
Rip breathed out a blessed sigh of relief as the pain in his head gradually decreased.
“You’re the Grendel,” he said, with a sigh. “Your dream recording systems… they’re malfunctioning. You’ve been searching for my brainwaves. It’s one of your routines for finding me in an emergency, but it looks like you’ve been emitting psychic impulses as well as trying to connect to mine. Which has all been made worse by the fact that you’ve been tapping directly into the time drive to draw power for it.”
I am sorry. I was unaware that I was doing that. My systems are badly damaged.
“I know, Gideon, you didn’t mean to do it, but the human brain can’t take that kind of power. I got a headache just walking on board. It should be fine once we get it repaired,” said Rip. “Did you know that you’ve also been generating a hologram that’s been calling my name while walking around in the forest?”
No, Captain. I didn’t know I could do that.
“Neither did I,” said Rip. “I mean, holograms, yes, but I had no idea you had a form that was beyond this one. They thought you were a ghost.”
That’s quite unfortunate.
“If it’s any consolation, they think I’m a hero and they sent me off to kill a dragon,” said Rip. “Since the dragon turned out to be you, I think I might give that a miss.”
Much better. I actually enjoyed reading that again!

So for the fanfic questions, if you’re still doing them? 21, 30, 39, 46 and 50 😊
thank you! :))
21. What was the first fanfic you ever wrote?
it was in the hiatus between season 5 and 6. a mutlichapter that showed where everyone got after 5x22. they were like living in the same house blah blah blah. it was so cliche and angsty and not in a nice way. stefan cried like twice? so did caroline. i sure as hell deleted it after a while. i don’t know if i still have it saved on my laptop. hopefully not lolol
30. What inspires you to write?
it’s funny really cause i don’t think it depends on the idea at all. i’m very capable of having 10 ideas for different fanfics in my head without writing them. so what really does it for me is when i’m in the mood to type down something. like sometimes i just can’t imagine myself opening a new document and typing down words. so when i’m inspired it’s the exact opposite. i be in the mood to type and to come up with words and fill blanks. it doesn’t make sense but heh
39. What is you greatest strength as a writer?
I like to think that it’s the dialogue. i feel like i’ve reached a point where i know what each character says so it just flows smoothly. that being said, i’ve only ever written tvd characters so i don’t know if it will be the same if i write other characters.
46. If someone was to read one of your fanfics, which fic would you recommend to them and why?
aahhh god nothing! i want people to read Lights Will Guide You Home, though. just because i’m lowkey excited for what happens next. if i ever get it written and finish it, it will be the best of all my stuff. also probably Open Wounds as a one shot drabble sort of thing
50. How did you get into reading and/or writing fanfiction?
I can’t remember how i started reading but I know that sterolineislove was the first author i read something for. after reading too many fics i had lots of ideas and scenarios. I started sending prompts for writers but after a while i wanted to write them down myself and voila!
lmaooooo well. by far my most productive writing days are when I’m on a train. I usually have limited internet, no interruptions and it’s quiet, and I get a lot done as a result. plus if I’m writing smut there’s this added giggling every five minutes bc no one knows I’m writing smut apart from me and that’s just. really funny to me for some reason lol.
but alas I don’t go on a lot of long train journeys nowadays, so the next favourite is definitely my bed with the lights off. I get most of my writing done on my phone and then I edit on my laptop, so I’m usually lying in bed when I get the better ideas.
8. Favourite trope to write.
see with me I don’t know if I really do a lot of tropes in my actual writing as much as I enjoy reading them. I have still never written a coffee shop au, lol. but I mean one thing I keep coming back to is the idea of soulmates across the multiverse and I’m so heavily invested in that for lauryssa that I have headcanons for various earths in my head rn.
31. Hardest character to write.
hmm idk. maybe rip, actually, because it’s really hard to strike a balance between him being an east londoner who is a disaster time dad and then his sort of formality that he usually has in his speech? I’ve never quite got the hang of his voice, basically.
40. Original Fiction or Fanfiction, and why?
ah I feel bad saying this bc I haven’t read a lot of fic lately, but it has to be original fiction at this particular moment in time. I’ve discovered some total gems during my jobhunt as a result of looking up some authors that the literary agencies I’ve been applying to represent, and they’ve reminded me how much I absolutely love reading novels of various kinds. currently I’m in the middle of a novel called disobedience which I believe is also a movie now, and I’m honestly so completely blown away by the beauty of the prose. having said that, there are fic writers who knock my socks off in the same way, like you, ofc, and also @dutchjohns (I seriously would love to know how she comes up with all those beautiful turns of phrase because GUHHHHH) as well as some of my inspirations to try different things in my writing, my friends @crollalanzaa and @karasunovolleygays when we were in the hp fandom together and they both wrote a ton of rarepairs and did a wonderful job with dialogue in particular which is why I think I like writing it so much. for sure fanfic has made me a better writer and I’ll always be grateful for that. but yeah rn I do like reading original fiction and I have an idea for a novel that i might commit to. who knows.
44. Best piece of feedback you’ve ever gotten.
I mean, when @stungunmilly2 mentioned that I was giving away a bit too much in terms of exposition I think that was a great bit of advice because I never know with that and I didn’t even realise it was really an issue until I went to a writing class this one time.
but also in my most recent killjoys fic, I had a number of people tell me that they didn’t ship dutch and johnny romantically and yet the strength of my writing kinda swayed them or at least made them understand why I shipped them like that. and I think that’s a big deal because it takes a lot to even read something that you don’t ship, let alone say that you enjoyed it and were convinced by it. so yeah. :)
53. What does writing mean to you?
it’s my one release and escape from the shitty world we live in, lol. and in all honesty I would be very, very lost if I didn’t have some kind of outlet, and I’m glad I have this because I need it like air. and when I have bad days re my self esteem and how good/bad a writer I am (usually bad), sometimes I have to remind myself that I’m doing this primarily for me. everything else comes secondary to that, really.
@bessiescott51 replied to your post “Homecoming (Barry/Iris; M)”
All I can say is breathe, breathe
lmao I hope that means you liked it :)
@valeriemperez replied to your post “Homecoming (Barry/Iris; M)”
love this <3
thanks tati :)
@smilinstar replied to your post “my dudes I’m getting all this sudden positivity thrown my way and I...”
you do deserve it :-)
I appreciate that, sumona, dear. <3 I also got a load of comments for my latest fic and I’m just sitting here keysmashing and trying not to cry too much lol
@polyroci replied to your post “your fic is cool but you whine way too much about your life. I’ve done...”
Good job responding to this. I'm sorry you had to see anyone being like this, but you must be doing something right to attract the attention of enough people to find someone like this with a lot of audacity and no sensitivity.
I mean, tbh, if that’s what people think of me and how I go about my personal life, I’d much rather they didn’t read my fic at all. but yeah, thanks. I was pretty angry when I was writing this haha.
@smilinstar replied to your post “your fic is cool but you whine way too much about your life. I’ve done...”
aw hun i can't believe the sheer dickishness of this anon's ask. you don't deserve it, and you should never had to have explained yourself like this. you're stronger than you know and you're wonderful *hugs*
I know, like in all my time on this hellsite I’ve never had anything this douchey or entitled. and like I wasn’t even going to post this but I thought I should put it out there for any future dickish anons with similar ideas. [shrug emoji] also my friend you’re wonderful too *hugs back*
@crollalanzaa replied to your post “your fic is cool but you whine way too much about your life. I’ve done...”
You are without doubt one of the best people I know. That anon is not only rude but without any empathy at all. They no doubt think of themselves as enlightened for reading fic, and believe a smile solves everything. An exceptionally good answer, but you should never be put in the position where you have to detail your life to justify your blog because of an appalling ask. I hope they read your answer and not only leave you alone but consider how to approach people in the future. Take Care xx
thanks croll. the thing is I often write about emotional and psychological vulnerability in my fic so you’d think people who read it wouldn’t have that kind of apathetic mindset. but hey, who knows. I hope this person realises how much this kind of thing can hurt. I appreciate your support <3
@clorkegriffin replied to your post “hey Mina I just saw that anon you got and like... fuck them? your...”
I agree, that person is disgusting and needs to reevaluate their own life if they think it's ok to come into your ask box and say shit like that.
a fucking men, my friend. the anon button is for people who wanna say hi or ask for advice or compliment someone but are shy. that’s the only reason I’ve ever used it, anyway.
