11/19/24 - Smithville, TX - BIRTHDAY WEEK: PART ONE - If you told me three months ago that we would be celebrating two different birthdays in Smithville, TX this week, I wouldn’t have believed you. Well, here we are. The first birthday celebration this week is for Aunt Liz. We’re having a surprise party for her at the Fat Cat Lounge & Cafe in downtown Smithville. After 85 years, she’s accumulated lots of family and friends to help celebrate and a lot of them are here. Go Liz!
Historic Smithville Villiage, NJ
This derelict baseball field is located along Texas 95, in Smithville. It’s adjacent to West End Park, and an old nightclub that was one of the last stops along the Chitlin’ Circuit from the early 20th century until the 1960s.
The ball park was used for negro league games and once hosted exhibition games featuring Satchel Paige and Josh Gibson.

03/17/24 - Smithville, TX - SMALL TOWN MURALS - Wherever we go, around the U.S. or internationally, can’t get enough of the murals painted on the sides of buildings: especially in small towns. Of course, quality and condition may vary but that’s part of what makes it so interesting. Saw a bunch of wall murals this morning while walking around downtown Smithville looking for a place to get breakfast. Picked this one to share with you because it speaks to me, filled the camera frame nicely and has just enough green in it to help us celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Can’t wait to see my first Banksy. In the meantime, this kind of stuff will do just fine.
03/16/24 - Smithville, TX - WEDDING DANCE - Meet Devon & Laura who pulled off a great wedding dance in front of lots of people: hopefully a once-in-a-lifetime experience they’ll always fondly remember. We must be getting old: seems like just yesterday that Devon was a little tyke. Now he’s a college graduate and husband with a great future ahead of him. Wishing him and Laura all the best in life. This dance was certainly a great start for the both of them.
