smoke obscures the Seattle sun, 9/14/2020
I guess now I'm live-blogging the sun. By which I mean Smokepocalypse.
Solaris: Oh no, Bitch. I've been in this joint for three days! You gon' let me out TODAY. . *10 Minutes Later* : COUGHS IN MEOW. . Me: Told you so. Now you get a bath. Lucky you. . #catsofinstagram #cats #smokepocalypse #climatechange #seattle #blackgirlmagic #ashy (at Seattle, Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFF4hoYJxxH/?igshid=1dpq692u45loc
Seattle. . Y'all crazy. . I. Can't. Even. . I just watched a dude eat fried chicken and he kept it moving. Without a mask. . Chicken in mouth. . Gotdamn . #seattle #craycray #smokepocalypse #blackgirlmagic (at Seattle, Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFFknUVJnL2/?igshid=v680i5x8w5kx
Last night was rough. I'm running on 4 hours of sleep. Despite the air filter, smoke kept seeping in. It is hard to sleep when your eyes are constantly producing homemade lye. . I wonder if our misuse of the planet is really worth it in the end. I am very far from being a Granola Warrior, but I believe in the sustainability our post war Grandparents practiced. Mend. Reuse. Borrow when necessary. Trade if possible. Buy second hand first. . I learned to knit late, but I do know how to sew a button, fix a stitch, cook a meal, can food and garden. I can milk a cow. Slop a pig. I can't kill a chicken, but if I have to, I will. My Grandmother explained life while doing so: . 'Do you think this chicken would have a moral dilemma if it had a choice between eating nothing or eating you? Do you think the rabbits would not eat the grass you were buried under? All it takes is Man messing up one good time and the animals will forget that we were at the top of the food chain.' My grandfather taught me the gruesome art of cleaning a fish. My stepfather showed me the gruesome art of skinning an animal. The fish remnants were fed to the feral cats. The hide was sold. The bones were made into stock and then fed to the dogs. Just as the Native Americans didn't waste, neither did they. . Old Black Men in the Deep South hunted, foraged and grew. If they couldn't do it, the women took over. I never saw fires like this until I moved to the West Coast. It was '06 when the fires were so bad that it rained chunks of black ash as far as Hollywood Blvd. I remember looking into the sky and thinking: . Whoa. . We watched LA burn from the Hills drinking Stella. Now we watch the Coast burn in futility. . I wish there was an America where everyone wasn't stupid rich, where people could work a minimum wage job and live comfortably. When college wasn't a burden. Where sugar wasn't in everything, water was clean and portion control was a given, not a lesson. . Nature has a way to show her renters that they need to slow their role. If Covid wasn't good enough, smoke is the perfect punctuation to end the discussion. . #blackgirlmagic #seattle #smokepocalypse #oregon #climatechange #simpleliving (at Seattle, Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFFSOlqJslF/?igshid=1jcjccumrly90
