Somedays, I would crave for a smoke even though I hate the smell of cigarettes hoping for a sense of relief.

A sense of relief that couldn't be earned with the washing away of the waves,

nor be earned by the burning of the sun,

nor be earned from being coated in the golden hour.

A sense of relief that couldn't be earned by digesting a korean baked cheese bun,

or gulped away by a matcha latte.

A sense of relief that couldn't be earned by crying away through a sob or a wail,

neither by the fatigue from a walk or run.

Somedays, I thought about smoking flowers, not cigarettes, hoping to relieve the aching inside of me in a more healthy way, for I do not wish to punish myself more.

I never yet tried either of the two,

and somedays I ask myself when I’ll eventually give out for not doing so.

Somedays, I ask myself what's keeping me together—my endurance? my high pain tolerance? my resilient mindset I had to develop over the years in order to survive? my responsibility as the eldest daughter, first-born child, first granddaughter and first niece?

Somehow, I’m tired of it all—trying to survive.

I’m tired of shifts, of deadlines, of responsibilities I’ll never be perfect to fulfill.

I’m tired of being independent and dependent.

I’m tired of being told what to do and not what to do.

I’m tired of being perceived and ridiculed.

I’m tired of being reduced to just a someone.

I’m tired of being chained to a corrupt system where the rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer.

I'm tired of counting my money to see if I still have enough yet never having the courage to ask for more.

I’m tired of walking under the rain, making my shoes and aocks all wet and mushy.

I’m tired of pinching my thighs whenever I have the urge to cry, or whenever I feel pain.

I’m tired of silencing myself whenever I speak and they don't listen.

I’m tired of being yelled at, getting mad at, getting blamed for.

I’m tired understanding situations and people who don't bother to do the same.

I’m tired of always being the one initiating conversations and reviving dead friendships.

I’m tired of persuading myself everyday that I can go through this week, and the week after this, and the week after that and all the weeks and months and years after.

Maybe, smoking a cigarette or a flower would eventually help me survive this time.
