hey 00qad fandom!
a few questions to keep this tiny fandom alive and kicking...
1) who washes the dirty undies and always makes sure there’s fresh and folded underwear for everyone in the right drawers?
2) who’s the pickiest at the dinner table and is often the person for whom there is a special side dish to compensate?
3) who has long one-way conversations with pampuria and turing, using them as his therapist?
4) who else is allowed to touch bond’s car?
5) who is often seen googling the odd aches and pains and thinking he’s going to die?
6) who is the only non-tea drinker among them?
Petition to make Smolex the official ship name of Danny X Alex
Has anyone looked at the song that the lady sings in the bar scene where Scottie meets Alex? Like apart from the fact Episode 1 is called Lullaby, there has to be a reason why Takeda Lullaby was played in that specific scene at that moment, right?
The Takeda Lullaby is a cradle song wherein “a young girl comforts herself with singing about her miserable situation”.
The translation from Japanese is this (I got it from here, so I’m sorry if it’s inaccurate): I would hate baby-sitting beyond Bon Festival, The snow begins to fall, and the baby cries.
How can I be happy even when Bon Festival is here? I don't have nice clothes or a sash to wear. This child continues to cry and is mean to me. Every day I grow thinner. I would quickly quit here and go back To my parents' home over there, To my parents' home over there. Now, I might be reading too much into this, but is it not foreshadowing the miserable situation that Danny’s going to have when Alex’s body is found and the interrogation starts? The song continues as she’s forced on a path and all she looks back to are the mountains of her parents where her life was good. Again, if we put Danny in place of the girl, we can clearly see he’s being forced down this life that he wants no part in. The baby can be symbolised as his grief for Alex as “it won’t stop crying”, meaning that Danny’s grief for Alex is strong and is hurting him to the point that he’s neglecting to take care of himself. Idk it was just a thought. I’m probably going way too deep into this.
Can we take a second to go over this shot? It’s the shot right during Alex’s voice over as he says he’d like to try again.
Now I’ve not got a meta and analysis planned out or anything, but this scene very much reminded me of the pilgrim scene (it’s around 1:40) from Romeo and Juliet.
The exact wording that Shakespeare uses is this: (taken from sparknotes.com)
ROMEO
(taking JULIET’s hand)
If I profane with my unworthiest hand
This holy shrine, the gentle sin is this:My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready standTo smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss.
JULIET
Good pilgrim, you do wrong your hand too much, Which mannerly devotion shows in this, For saints have hands that pilgrims' hands do touch, And palm to palm is holy palmers' kiss.
And, in a way, it makes sense. If Alex is Juliet, his death has been faked (which means we might get a season 2), leaving Danny to find his body, much like Romeo did. However, Danny is a stronger character, as he doesn’t immediately fall on a dagger and die, but rather sets about clearing his name and trying to find the truth behind his love’s disappearance.
Now I’m not trying to say Alex is Juliet and Danny is Romeo, and it might be a possibility that they are, it’s just something I linked to as I was rewatching the opening episode.
