was supposed to keep her magic a secret but was just a little kid and was trying to do the right thing.
the town guard stormed her house in the middle of the night and wanted to take her for execution but her parents and sister refused and lost their lives for it.
the emotional pain caused her magic to become chaotic and kill those guards and she knew she had to run.
she had been on the run since then trying her best to just survive off the pity of strangers and pure rage and spite. this rage and spite and hatred/fear of humans would ultimately always end up causing trouble and she'd have to escape to the next place.
this and a trial of bodies eventually caught up to her and even a cat only has so many lives.
through clemency and mercy she was granted the rite of tranquility over death as it was decided it was her parent's wrong for not having her trained or sent away to be with her kind and, once tranquil. she'd no longer be a threat.
this has made her a hollow shell and she doesn't try to hide it or placate others by masking the hollowness.
she's "happily" quite acerbic, unkind, compulsive, domineering, stubborn, but also quite logical, intelligent, and fair.
it's not her fault she's this way and she can't really feel any sympathy or guilt about it but even if she could, she probably wouldn't. she's become quite selfish, isolated, and uninterested in the world around her unless it furthers her goals.
i can't say she's gonna be a great character in terms of friendships with muses but maybe you have a muse that "gets it" and how she could feel and tolerates her?? i think that's the closest someone could ever be to her AT THE MOMENT.
BUT there's tons of fun coming up and so much potential that'll be a blast.

sohwi grows up quite human, with all the longing to be something more than that as humanity is wont to do, even when her birthplace is removed from the rift and magic and all the realities of what that entails. when she's nine, someone from the woods tells her about magic, mana, and those who have them. they even show her the broomstick they arrived on. she's just young enough to believe them, and old enough to know there must be explanations and how-tos for it.
so she goes looking, when she's old enough. she doesn't find a fairytale. it's quite the opposite, because she got turned 3 years ago. this is a big plot point that i'm leaving open as a wanted connection for plotting, but suffice to say it's a traumatic experience for her. she learns, not by choice, that a herbivore isn't necessarily harmless when she's on the goring end of their antlers—and when she's the beast itself soon after.
she ends up running from her birthplace with her sibling, seeking refuge or revenge or something else, anything to outrun the animal under her skin now. (she's also filling in for the turned sibling in the river runs red subplot!) their travels have taken them to yeonghae, one way or another, with a darkspawn picked up along the way from one night of desperation and helplessness.
she summoned serpentine out of anger/confusion and to fix things, to give her magic and power the way she had thought it ought to be like, and agreed too quickly to their deal. i think she's desperate enough to have been willing to kill but too naive to know what that actually means.
keeps trying to get her humanity back, but this might be a sisyphean task for her. either way, she's working in the most mundane spots of yeonghae, listening to stories at the theatre and wishing for simpler times (and trying to meet serpentine's condition).
sohwi is sweet and naive, but life experiences have turned her sharp. tends to have a quick tongue now to guard her heart, though she still gets carried away with good mischief and easy promises. kinder than she has the resources to be. she makes hasty choices on naivete or idealism, despite the fact that she should know better by now, and tends to regret them.

he was born the year of the first blight, or so he recalls. he remembers being born to a family of powerful sorcerers, remembers that he was particularly gifted in his magic wielding.
but then then 25 years post-blight he had become corrupted by the rot and thus, had been forcefully turned into a creature he could never fathom being or wanting to be. he had become a revenant. a creature who lived off of blood consumption.
and if that wasn't bad enough, the consequences of satiating his hunger was having creatures memories forced into his head, replacing even his own memories that had started to become more and more faint over time. he was forgetting who he was, and where he came from.
and so, quiet bravely (or stupidly, depends who you ask) the young male had decided to stop consuming blood months later. this, in result, led to his health decaying and his being withering away until the abyss, who's rot had affected him, had re-claimed him.
he's not sure how long he was in darkness after that, doesn't remember how long he waited. until finally, a voice in a desperate plea had summoned him and he appeared before her. jang bomi was in horrible condition; clearly on deaths door.
the ritual had been rushed, his bonded was out of it, he himself, was panicked, confused and overwhelmed. by the time they drank each others blood she had collapsed unconscious. it was now up to him to take care of his new-found bond. sanghoon was now a dark one, complete with horns and a tail.
he had taken care of her, made sure her health got better. and he's been with her ever since; they'd moved and he started helping her take care of her little shop, and following his own passion of music in his free time.

sanghoon, while a sweetheart with a gentle smile, host a dark-side that shows in a more.. protective and possessive light. he will not hesitate to harm for the people he holds dear; particularly his bond.
a lover of all things art; be it music, painting, or pottery. he will happily explain that it's the reason he spends a lot of his time working at the dragon's hoard. he loves the atmosphere, and enjoys the reaction to his bonded's art. other than that, you'll quite often see him in the tavern singing his heart out.
naturally, he's pretty calm and laidback—able to go with the flow. but he's also quick to anger, especially if his dark-side is triggered. then you're just asking for brutal coldness, dominance and violence. just a tip; don't mess with his bond if you don't want to get burned.
as mentioned before, he can be pretty quiet and shy towards people. he much prefers to stick to himself within his little shell, but that doesn't mean he can't be playful and teasing.
on the contrary, due to being pretty young compared to other darkspawn who can live a really long time... sanghoon can be a little childish, and immature. it shows in how he'll get huffy, jealous over nothing and give an attitude like a petulant child when mad.
honestly, at this point he's just trying to live in some sort of peace by doing his best to keep the fact he's a cursed one hidden and posing as a normal, unspecial human.

kim haeun, in her 50s (appears mid-20s), siren, she/her.
haeun is an odd child. she has weird interests and exhibits some questionable behaviour, but most concerning of all is her fascination for the deep sea and the rifts down there.
there's something that keeps dragging at her. maybe it's the ocean calling, maybe it's a fraying mind - haeun's convinced it's a god she's meant to listen to. she builds this construct of them in her head, prays to them, becomes less of herself in her devotion. i want to be clear here: whether or not this god actually exists doesn't matter. what does matter is that haeun is obsessed with them.
she ends up in a never-ending cycle: she thinks the voices in her head are god telling her what to do. she uses magic, and too much of it. the voices get louder. this is actually her unraveling (and her sanity slipping), but she doesn't recognise those signs; she's sure she's getting closer and closer to a higher power.
haeun is actually a very skilled magician, and known for her this. she's a great healer, but sometimes takes it too far. there's other things she does that she won't remember in the future - i've got a vision for her in my mind but this part is flexible, we can plot around it!
about ten years ago, her mother finds someone who manages to get haeun out of the ocean and onto dry land. she doesn't ever fully snap out of her spiral, but she does start recognising that she's lost some of her marbles. because she's so suspectible to listening to whatever the waves are whispering to her, she's been staying on land as much as possible and trying to piece a life together - it's just that some pieces to this puzzle can't ever be recovered. forever a work in progress, you get the idea.
she doesn't use magic anymore (way too risky), but she does what she can as a healer at reflection's light temple! i envision her performing general healing that doesn't require magic and supervising lower-skilled magic users. her unraveling actually helps with some of this: because her senses are hightened her eyesight and hearing are just better. overwhelming in daily life, kind of helpful if you're trying to listen to someone's heartbeat.
lately, she's been questioning her god, but she's not at a point where she's willing to question whether they exist. she still prays, she's just careful about not overdoing it. she's been trying to ignore the voices in her head.
kind of paranoid, very scattered, frequent gaps in memory. haeun doesn't feel human, and she doesn't try to. she's very smart and non-judgemental, but it can be hard to get through to her. might be dipping her toes into dating life recently but she comes with a lot of baggage and her experience is marginal.

hey there! i'm leon (21+, he/him) here with yang seohan, a water descendent dragonborn who's been in yeonghae his whole life (technically since the first blight). while he's usually tending to his duties between due north trading company and the shipyard, he tends to run pretty constant disappearing acts (usually into some kind of water) if you happened to be looking for him..

seohan uses he/him and they/them interchangeably, and while he appears 27 years old, he's been around for 288 years. this means his family was present during the blight, and also one of the original families that was around when yeonghae first started to form once blight was sealed. that said, his family's been involved in the creation of the due north trading company, and has been integral in the trading and voyages that take place in compass port (with a dedicated section to their own ships in the shipyard) so they're pretty well known around town
as an overseer, seohan signs off on important voyages and deals with most of the larger trading contracts that helps supply the town, and he's been in the position for a handful of years now, as given to him by his father
it wasn't originally supposed to be his position, however. seohan's older brother, ilseo, was the one who was set to take over as an overseer in the company, but as he set off to take a voyage in celebration of his birthright around 40 years ago, he never returned. seohan took over his position and his family resolutely tried to quiet the news of what happened and let seohan take over the position. he never speaks of his brother, now, as does any of his family mention him and actively Avoid doing so, but it's something he's never taken lightly in their denial and silence
he was very close with his brother when they were younger, and he took the disappearance of him in his life deeply. while tied to the company and the port, he's never been able to leave to go looking for him, and he still holds every hope that his brother is still out there and had his reasons for not returning
as such he very much feels Undeserving of his position and while he does handle all that he needs to for appearances and the continued importance of his family in the business, he usually finds himself anywhere else when he gets the chance
he's always been connected to the water due to his affinity with the element, and he's often found in the lakes and ponds of the blackwood, the southern wetlands, or at mooncrest beach swimming for hours (in part, because he believes that one of the only ways he can ever find his way back to his brother is by somehow communicating to him through the water, as he believes, all things return to the rain and sea)
he learned quite a multitude of musical instruments when he was growing up, and sometimes, he moonlights at whiskey's rest to play for the crowds on weekends, even though it's under the cover of a hood and mask (he can play Most instruments or sea shanties if you nicely request..)
they are very devoted to their family and position, and it's mostly what drives most of his decisions. it's been known for awhile now around town that his parents intend on marrying him off now that he's settled into his position, As Is The Way Of Things, and so if you've had the unfortunate view of him on one of his many blind dates, it has been through Gritted Teeth.. more recently, however, his engagement to yoon minhae (@/heavenwrought) has been taking over most of the previous gossip surrounding his parent's past matchmaking attempts
usually, he hides any of his draconic features during the day, but the yang family name has been around long enough that it's evident of their dragonborn lineage. if you happen to catch him when he's running a bit too tired, his eyes are usually the color of cool, blue pearls, scales of emerald green and ocean blue tinting along his neck, and sometimes, even the beginning of silver, almost opalescent curved horns from his temples
some possible plots to consider (i will finish a more solid plots page soon!):
you've been around as long as seohan/his family has, and maybe you even knew his brother, ilseo. with it becoming a much Avoided topic around town and with his family, maybe the both of you seem like the only ones invested in his appearance (and any possible news of what happened/anyone in the crew that returned without his brother)
he regularly lets you go out on voyages/rent a certain ship that he's seen that you have quite an affinity for. as such, he always has it ready, and tends to reserve it off to the side just in case you happen to come looking for a contract, and if you want to spend some more time with the ship, then he lets you
you also tend to deal with him in trading deals, your business/work supplied by what they receive in the port, and it's such a consistent deal that sometimes he comes by to deliver the goods himself. there's always a few extra thrown in, and perhaps he's coming by for the brief company, too
you frequent the blackwoods/southern marshlands/mooncrest beach and you just see each other there so much maybe you've just gotten used to Coexisting in the same space since there seems to be No avoiding each other
likewise, if you're in the water and seohan is just Always where he shouldn't be, like Taking Up Your Water Space. maybe you've seen him fully exposed with his draconic features and know all of those rumors of his family to be true, because he always tends to let them be revealed when he's in the water
when he's at whiskey's rest to perform, it's usually bracketed by taking up a table in the corner and minding his business with a drink. he doesn't have many stories to tell, but the ones he does he likes to retell over some drinks and good food, and you've both gotten used to interchanging them late into the night even if he never really gets around to telling you who he really is
you both are always renegotiating a contract, and its become a bit of a banter between the both of you. it's a risky balance between amicable and irritated, and one of these days, will you both ever find one contract that you're both satisfied with or will it finally all tip over..
he's at the shipyard quite often, working on ships and looking over construction and repair work on the ones the trading company own, and you might not even know he's the overseer due to the reason he's always down there doing things with his own hands, but he doesn't quite try to correct you, either. he's happy to be able to pretend, even for just a little while, that he's not Yang Seohan, Overseer
you also live at victory garden and just have general apartment spats.. he's playing the piano at three in the morning or his violin on the balcony at early hours and you do Not want a classical alarm clock, thank you..
