She called him Legion and usually that’d be a problem but … Damn it! Look at her little face! And those big green, excited eyes! And the way she shouts mister with so much enthusiasm! Fuck, he’s not even annoyed that she’s asking about the hair. It’s irritating when people ask about the hair but there isn't the slightest hint of teasing or malice in her voice. Just genuine childish wonder. Ah, but now Gabby is sounding all conspiratorial and he just can’t help the lopsided grin that spreads across his face.
“Y’ wanna know my secrets, eh?” David says, his grin shifting into something devious. He crouches down to her level, his head tilting and a hand rising to rub his chin. He frowns at Gabby for a second, concentrating real hard. Then David nods, appearing to come to a decision.
“Aye, y’ seem trustworthy enough. Alright, listen real carefully ‘cause I’m only gonna tell y’ once,” a pause as he looks around to make sure no one else is listening and then he whispers. “It’s psychic force. Basically y’ just gotta think hard enough and then up it goes. The funny thing is, any mutant could do it if they tried. Even you.”
A bit of a lie there. Yes, it’s psychic force but it’s really all just a part of his mutation. No one else could achieve this much lift in their hair, but why not make a game of this? Why not get her to try and use his power to give her an up-do to rival his?
