Attempting to draw a dragon traditionally
Yesterday I thought to myself "man I wanna try watercolor again with a dragon." But the process of making a dragon to watercolor has been a dang journey and I need y'all (the 4 people following me) to suffer with me.
This is the dragon I drew yesterday. At first glance, nothing wrong. But when I came back to it, I realized the proportions are all out of wack. The head's just a bit too big, the back half is too small, the hand is too big and really weird. The entire dragon is too big, I couldn't fit the wings. Since it's not a digital piece I can't just resize it. But I was meeting up with a friend so I left it for the next day (today).
No. The proportions are nearly correct, but the middle section is too short. That dragon is squished. Where are the lungs??? I didn't even bother adding the details to this one.
Interlude: Actually practicing the parts I'm struggling with
Fine, I'll friggin use references. She's got a puma body and bat wings. I realized as I was drawing I've never actually drawn a bat before, crazy.
Things are looking good...
Is it perfect? Of course not. That's the point. But it's something I'm much happier with.
Eventually I'm gonna put this on a lightboard and trace it onto some watercolor paper, but for now I have a headache and need to shower so that'll be a step for later.
