Towards the Sun
STARTER FOR @snakesfang
IT WAS INCREDIBLY rare for Sakura to have a free day, being granted the prestigious position of head of the Konoha hospital made it virtually impossible; but given her latest streak of growing lightheaded due to her overworked state she had granted herself two days to rest and recuperate. After all, what good would she be if she was not in her best condition; they were not at war, her fatigue didn’t need to be ignored for the greater good. It was funny really, the entire time she was racing around the hospital from consultations to surgeries, all she would think is how desperately she would like time off, but now that was granted to her she was at a complete loss at what to do with her time and somehow found herself on the hospital rooftop ironically enough.
INHALING DEEPLY, SAKURA smiled gently, eyes fixed on the peaceful village; it was hard to believe that her home was subjected to countless assaults over the years and still managed to remain somewhat normal despite the harsh hand fate had dealt it. Gaze drifting, she peered down at the clotheslines laid out below her; ❝This place is littered with memories,❞ she whispers softly, it felt like only yesterday that Naruto and Sasuke were fighting each other here, obliterating everything in their path and almost each other. Sasuke, she notes silently, her chest aching as thick lashes flutter closed; You were full of so much pain back then, I can only hope that your journey is dulling that pain for you.
HOW LONG HAD it been since he had departed? Two, maybe three months? It was hard to keep track in all honesty given how busy she had been. Fingers trace down her thighs, eyes reopening as she stared dazedly up into the sky above; ❝You’re going to come back, right?❞ she wonders out loud. It was hard to shake the thought that he might not; after all, he did say that he was embarking on a journey of redemption. But would he ever truly feel redeemed? It was difficult to say, but given his track record, she could only assume he would be overly hard on himself no matter what he did over the years to come in order to regain the trust of the village and ninja world as a whole. The medic averts her gaze, eyes growing glassy as she tries to maintain her composure; she couldn’t help it, her heart ached just thinking of his never-ending suffering.
