One night, when I was about 9, I suddenly awoke around 3am. It was pitch black in my room, only a faint orange light from the street lights coming through the windows. At the time, I had a bunk bed & slept on the top bunk. I don't know what made me look to my right, but when I turned my head, I could see a distinct outline of a faceless person staring at me through the bars. My face was about 10cm away from the bars, 20cm away from the face. Somehow, I fell back asleep. But I'll never forget.
