So my best friend just texted me

And she told me ‘hey, I just wanted to let you know that I was on the phone with (my ex) for about 45 minutes, just catching up. I don’t want you to think it’s shady and if you don’t like it, just let me know.’

Honestly, I couldn’t care less.

But, I have to be honest.

If my friend reached out to him first, which she might’ve, because she’s not really the type to hold a grudge and she’s just a nice person, how pathetic is it of my ex to actually reply and be like ‘oh, yep. I’m gonna chat with my ex wife’s best friend for like 45 minutes on the phone. The best friend that she chose over me. The best friend that she dated in high school. Yup. I’m gonna chat with her.’

Second scenerio: if my ex reached out to her first, that’s even MORE pathetic because like, buddy...get your own friends. She’s been my best friend for nearly a decade. Like come on. I know you’re kind of a loser, but c’mon.

I just find the whole situation hilarious, really. Because either way, it just makes him look like a total loser. 😂

(And no, I don’t think my friend is trying to hop on his dick. She’s married. He lives in Arizona. She lives in Colorado. And she would rather die than hurt me.)

I’m possibly giving up something that has been part of my life on and off for about ten years now.

And the reason I’m giving it up is for a good cause.

But it still hurts?

Because this thing (which probably doesn’t seem like a big deal to anyone else), has been a pretty big part of my life since I was about 15/16. And it’s gotten me through some pretty rough shit.

But I’m 25/26 now, and it’s time to let it go.

And the fact is, is if I asked, there is the possibility that I wouldn’t have to give it up.

But I don’t want to stress my best friend out more than she needs to be. Because shes already going through so much. And it feels so selfish of me to ask for something this small when she’s going through all of this.

I don’t know. Growing up sucks. Being an adult sucks. No one prepares you for having to let go of your favorite things. Of a world that you’ve crafted for ten years. Of a story that you’ve held near to year heart. Of characters that you know so well that they’re practically like friends.

No one prepares you for this shit.
