howdy pardner 🐎
this is my entry to @drizzledrawings oc contest!
The Group (in no particular order):
The “Wildcat”: she’s a lone ranger/boogeyman type character, as she was cursed/hexed (idk yet) to be kind of stuck in between being fully human and fully an animal, a Puma in her case. She has an insatiable hunger/bloodlust, causing her to seek out livestock across various desert towns and watering holes. (some sketches below the cut) She is very slow to trust, and reluctant to trust in people. She moves from town to town, never staying in one place for too long because people get smart of the fact that all of their livestock are slowly dying because of a certain Puma in the area....
your honor she's just a girl!!!! (she's killed many people)
Caroline: She's the local town flirt, being extremely friendly and charismatic, more often than not to her detriment. She's a wicked shot with her trusty six-shooter, and she is often found challenging self-righteous men to duels she knows she'll win. She has lived in town her entire life, growing up behind the bar, between her mother's skirt as she worked and helping her father with his cobbling and leatherworking.
She is a very free spirit, and when it comes to commitment, she often runs before anything serious can develop. She can turn into a Red-Tailed Hawk to match this.
Lawrence "Goldie": Being born into one of the liquor families of the town, he grew up with a very cushy childhood, having almost every part of his future planned for him in advance.
This, of course, made him very rebellious and hard to deal with as he grew up, doing everything in his power to not do what he was told. He became a roper in his free time, participating in local rodeos, and competing for money he certainly did not need. This is how he met Rufus, but more on that in Rufus' section.
He can turn into a coyote w/a weirdly golden coat, and this gained him the nickname of 'Goldie' in town, along w his curly blonde hair in the rodeo circles (his whole family has light/dark brown hair). When it comes to transforming, he is quite bad at it. Like really bad. He does it in front of people, in broad daylight, and doesn't remember that clothes don't magically become un-shredded after transforming. He's also freakishly tall compared to everyone in his family, at a staggering 6'3".
Rufus: Your average hard-working ranching hand and bull rider. Rufus moved to town with his aging mother and older sister after his father divorced her when he was 9. He works job to job, sometimes multiple at a time to scrap enough to support his mother's ailing health. Before this, his sister worked at the same bar as Caroline, doing anything for money to help support Rufus and their mother. This lifestyle wore on her and she eventually became estranged from their mother, because their mother was almost ashamed of her at this point in her life. His sister left when he was 16, but she made sure he was set to at least make it to 17.
He is fiercely protective of his family and does anything to ensure their safety. His transformation, an Alabay (or Central Asian Shepherd Dog) is genetic, and his father was also able to do so. He has been able to do it since age 11, being very adept at the process thanks to his mother teaching him after they moved to town.
He and Goldie met (in human form) at a rodeo in town, as they were both set to compete that day. In usual Goldie fashion, he poked fun and jibed at Rufus all day, not believing the reverent chatter of his bull riding skills that he had heard leading up to the event. All this got under Rufus' skin and, of course, proved this 'Goldie' wrong the first chance he got.
