This is the amount of new Snarry fics per year (see Created By column as well) on AO3. Unfortunately I couldn't data crunch FFN or the old sites but I knew we used to be high up there. We're still 5th top ship for HP if otp:true is on, but we're on about 8~10% growth? We have 334 more new fics in 2025 than in 2023 or 2024! Yay, we're not dying after all!

Made this since 2025 AO3 Stats initially seemed to cause a lot disgruntlement over bad stats, but apparently we haven't been in top 100 yearly in many many years, we are only in top 100 for all time around rank 52~54--somehow that does make me less sad to know that I just imagined it was some great recent change; unfortunately fandom is just becoming more puritan like that.

I'm glad I made the list of total fics bc it kind of puts into perspective the fandom is just diversifying, which isn't necessarily bad. Though it's not like I can port in all the historical fics to see all that data too--though I know we used to be one of the big ships.

I mean, yeah, I'm still depressed that we've fallen off the podium b/c tiktok is both unsafe & inhospitable to us, but in the context of on average yearly amount of new fics, where HP has only 8k fics per year in 2005~2008 (when folks were still mostly posting on other sites), it really put into perspective the percentage column I saw previously in the futurephotons pairing makeup as not really giving the right idea. That makes it look much worse, when in reality most fics were still being posted on FFN/LJ/other sites back then--the amount of fics now on AO3 is staggering.

Now for the Snarry-a-thon stats--I was happy to see how many more prompts this year we had compare to last! And 39 fills is a huge jump from 2024! Wow, imagine if we were able to build fandom stats for the golden years lol (impossible, 80% of those sites are dead). I'm so curious how much % of Harry Potter ship fanfic was Snarry and what the total number of HP fanfics were back then.

What else can you extrapolate from this data? (if I've made an error, let me know or add stuff you want! Just be polite. )
