Since you asked so nicely… This is a little project that’s on hold for now, but I’m hoping to get back to this story soon. It’s working title in my head is simply “Dallas.”

Pushing through the outer exit, Victor takes the trash bag from Vanessa and throws it in the dumpster.  He checks around her car and the back seat before letting her open the car.  He blocks the entry to the little convertible she loves. “Do you know what you’re doing?  That guy is kind of an asshat…”

“I have no idea what I’m doing.”  She pushes on his arm, and he moves out of her way.  “But I’m twenty-one and I’m allowed to have a little fun, and make mistakes, and do dumb, irrational things.”  Vanessa climbs in the car and he closes the door.

He watches her start it up, and glares at the man in question as he walks through the parking lot and gets into the back of a large black SUV.  The driver taps the horn as they pass.  Victor taps the window and she rolls it down before reaching for her seatbelt.  “Isn’t he too old for you?  He’s been in the business forever.”

She pats the older man’s hand, resting in the window.  “Victor, I appreciate your concern.  And you’re right, it’s probably the most stupid thing I’ve done yet…  He’s not that old; he’s twenty-six.  But right now, I’m just going to dinner with a handsome man that invited me out.”

“He was all over you-”

“Good!  I needed that,” she laughs, her voice starting to wear out from the long night.  “I can’t remember the last time I was left alone long enough to get felt up.”

“Jesus Christ, Vanessa, I don’t wanna hear that shit.”  He sighs. “Ok, go.  I’ll be by the place in a bit to check on you.”  With worry, he rubs across his forehead.  “Do me a favor?”

“Of course; what’s that?” she asks, removing the ball cap and placing it on the seat next to her.

“Text when you get back to the room, and don’t drink anything tonight.”

“Aw, man.  Not you and the drinking too?”  He’s probably right, she needs to keep a clear head tonight and stay on her toes.  She nods.  “Fine, okay.  It’s not like I have a problem, but you’re right.  Drinking on a first date may not be a wise choice.”  She checks her rearview mirror as another car leaves the lot.  “Thanks for looking out for me, Vic.”

“You’re alright, hon.  Just take care.”  The burly man pats the side of the car and steps back, watching her tail lights as she drives away.
