NaNo Day 13
Over 700 words for the first time! I canz be over writing slump now???
Here’s today’s snippet, which features Star Wars references in a Star Trek crossover, because I can:
Judy started at the weight. "What, is it made of metal?"
"Hey, I thought you of all people would appreciate Princess Leia Eargana."
"I appreciate Princess Leia for her character, not her metal bikini. I'm not as shallow as you are, Wilde."
"Ouch. You're going to be really sorry you said that once you see what I got you."

29. favourite poem of another author
As with my quote book, I have lost too many of these.
I went with this in the end, because I think the third stanza describes me best.
Song Adrienne Rich
You're wondering if I'm lonely: OK then, yes, I'm lonely as a plane rides lonely and level on its radio beam, aiming across the Rockies for the blue-strung aisles of an airfield on the ocean.
You want to ask, am I lonely? Well, of course, lonely as a woman driving across country day after day, leaving behind mile after mile little towns she might have stopped and lived and died in, lonely
If I'm lonely it must be the loneliness of waking first, of breathing dawn's first cold breath on the city of being the one awake in a house wrapped in sleep
If I'm lonely it's with the rowboat ice-fast on the shore in the last red light of the year that knows what it is, that knows it's neither ice nor mud nor winter light but wood, with a gift for burning
31. easiest part of writing
Hmmm, my first instinct was getting a plot bunny (you, my dearest, should know how many I have in my pen!) but if this question is asking about the actual process of writing, then it would be conversations. When writing, the characters usually come to mind saying something. Next to occur to me would be tone, the emotions in the voice as the character is speaking. Following would be expressions, action as the character talks. Does it gel with the emotions in the speech? If it doesn’t, why?
Sometimes the action matching the conversation will lead me to think about details of the character - clothes if hands are shoved in pockets, hairstyle if hair is played with or brushed aside, maybe a table if elbows are rested on it. But usually the background and context of the conversation is the most nebulous to me.
It’s part of the reason why I dabbed with plays and comic book script writing, because I thought these methods of writing were more focused on the conversations. Not quite, but I’m still figuring things out.
37. canon or AU?
Oh man, this is a toughie. I think it’s canon dependent. For Bleach, I was mostly about the canon stuff because I felt that (in the early stages) Kubo explained his shinigami system well enough that I felt comfortable playing in it. For Zootopia, I explained to someone else that I am not comfortable with writing police procedurals, because my experience with those are limited to Sherlock and true crime documentaries. Those are not the stories I want to tell in Zootopia (at the moment). So until I brush up on my Brooklyn 99 and my noir, I think I ought to leave canon alone.
(Also the nature of my canon bunnies for Zootopia currently are filled with heartbreak - the Nick getting credit for Judy’s work bunny I told you about, the Judy goes undercover as a Playboy bunny that threatens to turn all The Whistleblower on me, and the latest from reading police shooting statistics where Judy undergoes an inquiry for shooting a predator and the ugly emotional snafu that comes along with it.)
Wow that got depressing.
50. Open question to the author: If you were to be taken out to celebrate! and got the meal you wanted, what would it be?
Oh man, I have no idea about this. Like my parents asked me where I wanted to go for my birthday, and I said I wanted to eat at home because I was tired of eating out.
But I’m a bit of an alcoholic, and celebration means DRINKS so probably the all day breakfast place here called Wild Honey that does excellent mango sauce brioche and a mean kir. Or if we could go all fantasy about this, I would swap out the kir for the very excellent cake vodka done by its rival Marmalade Pantry. Breakfast and vodka, for dinner. *thumbs up*
