I'd love to know your answers to 6, 12, 14 and 20 for the book ask! <3
6. what books have you read in the last month?
men who hate women by laura bates (which i loved), lapvona by ottessa moshfegh (which i hated), crying in h mart by michelle zauner (which i loved), and i’m currently reading desperate characters by paula fox (which i’m enjoying so far)
12. did you enjoy any compulsory high school readings?
i enjoyed soo many of the books i read in school. according to my goodreads shelf dedicated to school readings, i read 39 books for school—a selection of shakespeare’s stuff (love’s labour’s lost, othello, much ado about nothing, antony and cleopatra, macbeth, romeo & juliet, and twelfth night in particular), frankenstein by mary shelley, the bell jar by sylvia plath, a streetcar named desire by tennessee williams, and the crucible by arthur miller were some particular standouts for me.
14. do you ever mark/dog ear books you own?
i annotate the absolute hell out of my books. i don’t dog ear books, only because i hate seeing the gap between pages when it’s closed, but i absolutely wreck my books—i break the spines, write in the margins, highlight lines, use post-its to write notes, tab pages, absolutely everything. specifically my copies for gone girl and sharp objects by gillian flynn, pride & prejudice by jane austen, and if we were villains by m.l. rio are so heavily annotated that i can’t lend them out to anyone because i discuss spoilers everywhere and the pages are so covered in post-its that they have to be moved in order to read the book.
20. what are things you look for in a book?
characters!!! characters are by far the most important thing in a story to me, then writing. plot comes third only because i tend to read books that are essentially plotless, but characters with depth and personality are the most important aspect.
