Snider Honors Program Academic Excellence and Cultural Engagement
King University president emeritus Dr. Greg Jordan served the institution for nearly seventeen years, leading numerous academic and economic advancements. Using his expertise in strategic planning, Dr. Greg Jordan facilitated partnerships between King University and the Tennessee and Virginia and Tennessee Community Colleges, also leading the school’s development into a Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission (SACSOC) Level V school. King University’s growth under Dr. Jordan also included the establishment of the Jack E. Snider Honors Program. Open to highly achieving, deeply committed students from all disciplines, the program promotes not only academic excellence and inquiry, but camaraderie as well. The Snider Honors House offers a space for honors fellows to gather on King University’s campus for independent study, academic collaboration, or friendly discussion, offering classrooms, study spaces, an outdoor deck, and a kitchen and dining room. Snider offers a number of general honors courses that encourage thought and discussion on critical global issues. Each year, its honors seminar brings scholars together to explore a topic of particular prominence. Previous subjects have included “Postmodernism, Pop Culture, and Christianity,” “Understanding Islam,” and “Memento Mori - the Rituals of Death and Dying.” The Snider program’s customizable academic plans also present the opportunity for students to pursue advanced studies within their own majors. While offering unique opportunities in the classroom, the largely experiential program offers educational opportunities in the form of research, performance, community service, and international study engagements. Students attend special lectures and academic conferences, in addition to embarking on cultural and academic exchange endeavors such as the program’s yearly trip to Salzburg, Austria.
