ill never get over how in the Mortis Arc the Son tells Anakin his love for Padme is "a prison" and "is not his destiny".
The only love I feel in my heart is haunted by what would happen should I let go [of my guilt for killing the Tuskens].
Then it is not love, it is a prison.
I have a wife- you've met her. She's everything to me.
She's not your destiny.
But I love her.
She is a poisoner.
i love filoni soooo much. he gets star wars, man. he sees anakin's attachment to padme is directly related to his desperation for his mother, and his grief. and his need to be absolved from the raider incident (which padme's acceptance of him gives to him). and that padme's attachment to anakin is hooked to her desperation for a girlhood that was robbed from her as an exploited child queen. she betrays her values as a senator of republic law to ignore anakin's crimes, because she so deeply needs what is essentially a love fantasy for herself where she is saved. it is doom, of course, for the both of them. and they both understand this cliff-hanging madness in each other, even if not for directly what it is in reality. poison.
and on Mortis Anakin's power as the Chosen One and heart is tested by the weight of the lives of his two truest loves - the people who see him the most clearly at that point: Ahsoka and Obiwan. the Father puts those two specifically in jeopardy because he knows this will show the real stuff of Anakin's soul.
and all of this happens on the theatre of Mortis which is the Force plane itself.

when Ahsoka calls Anakin "the best of us" in the Mandalorian.
the BEST of US. of EVERYONE. anywhere.
gods she still sees him as a hero, a good soul, a good man, her brave Master, a man who suffered and was manipulated. after all these years - she loves him so much and holds him in such unyielding high regard.
she doesn't care what anyone else says or thinks.
anakin SAVED SO MANY PEOPLE in the Clone Wars. even though he was so, so damaged and lost. so isolated and manipulated and tormented. all the while he saved millions, maybe billions of lives.
and Ahsoka sees it like no one, NO ONE, tried to save him in return when he really needed it. when Vader suffocated him into submission. Ahsoka sees it like no one tried. not until she found him in Rebels.
"I won't leave you. Not this time."
Until Luke. which explains her fondness for Luke, succeeding where she couldn't then.
she loved Anakin so much and holds him in such high regard. Obi-wan and Padme died, both doing their part to save him.
But Ahsoka lived and keeps Anakin Skywalker's legacy alive - not Vader's.
Anakin's.
my heart shatters like a mug dropped on the floor ok!!!
ahsoka as the corny zoomer who cant make a phone call but simultaneously takes down a galactic dictator as part of an angered space k-pop fanbase
anakin as the depressed millennial who has Too Much Knowledge so he just ends up as innumerable neuroses masquerading as a man in a trench coat
obi-wan as the Gen X who is always just enough out of the loop to be annoying but still, admittedly, cool (and he remembers Space Blockbuster so he is Keeper of the Ancient Lore)
it's even more obvious now that TotJ has come out to provide even more textual evidence, that although unorthodox and sometimes verging-on dangerous, Anakin was one of the BEST masters in the Temple, if not THE best.
and why was this? it is because he truly deeply CARED and LOVED his padawan. he was TERRIFIED of losing her, a literal child, to a full-blown all-out war. HE was going to put her in a situation of war and battle, and it TERRIFIED him and he LET IT and so he trained her in ways no other padawan was trained. if was going to be personally responsible for her life, he wasnt going to let ANYONE tell him how to keep her alive. that was up to him. he allowed himself to feel love and fear for Ahsoka.
this drove him to give her the harsh and unrelenting, but frankly, called for training she needed to not die on the battlefield. anything else, while also putting children in war, would be insane in his mind. cruel and basically sending them off to death. to leave a gifted child like Ahsoka untrained for the realities of war? The pain, the confusion, the out-of-depth terror? he judged the Council for this even then.
Anakin's emotions, while powerful and sometimes painful, always made him see more clearly. this is the rare gift of strongly emotional people that others who do not have this gift cannot understand.
unfortunately, in his circumstances he was encouraged to mistrust and turn his back on those instincts, which is what confused him. his emotions were his compass and then he was told to stop looking at it.
Anakin Skywalker was a good master, one of the very best, and Ahsoka survived because he loved her.
Anakin outwitted Vader. his paranoia, his sense of doom, and his bone-deep inexplicable feelings of prophecy aided him in preparing her for the worst moments of her life. Like in Padawan Lost he mourned he would not always be there to protect her - and when she faced Vader, he wasn't.
Yet she lived.
He protected a light in the galaxy nonetheless, because she could protect herself.
okay im a little tipsy and i still STILL can't get over Ahsoka's iconic line I AM NO JEDI
IT JSUT MEANS SO MUCH
she is ANAKIN's padawan through and through. she's grown up aware of the criticisms he harbors about the Order, she's grown up as a child soldier in a WAR they enlisted her to fight.
she was a child and the council betrayed her for public support and the Senate's approval. they betrayed their child like Vader betrayed their children in the Temple. how many more did they betray themselves, in hushed whispers, before they called Vader the definitive Judas?
she witnessed Anakin's suffering.
she EMPATHIZED with it. she saw how he put his HEART AND SOUL into being their hero for their war. he was the engine of the war effort. he saved countless, thousands, millions of lives. a champion of the Republic. their most beloved weapon. anakin killing and killing and killing was okay then so long as it was for them.
they didnt tell him about Mortis. about his true destiny. they didnt tell him the Chosen One was chosen to suffer.
he saved HER life. just like he said he would.
i would NEVER hurt you ahsoka,EVER
the LOVE IN AHSOKA's eyes and anakin's eyes in that courtroom when he cleared her name!
the heartache of their separation on the steps of the Temple. that is how it was always going tk be wasn't it? anakin lost and gained everything by the council's decision. free will? those words escaped him and she knew it. her master the freed slave. always grateful, always wanting, always needing, always empty. so ways hungry and never full. never taking by his own grasp, always bowing, always guilty.
their best and worst Jedi. they said so without words. she saw it in his eyes, his shoulders, his need.
hungry boy makes a hungry man makes a hungry monster.
the respect he showed her by letting her go when she turned away from the Order. the anxiety he felt; the failure. but he wanted her free more than anything.
isn't that what it was all for? Freedom? (not his, but all of theirs?)
she sees herself as his champion now.
I won't leave you. Not this time.
(Not like them). (Not when you need someone most). (You deserve that at least). (You saved us, and I won't let you burn). (Not alone).
Not like them.
I am no Jedi.
padawan lost & post Order 66
SCREAMING CRYING THROWING UP bc in TCW after Ahsoka returns from her ordeal of being alone and hunted in Padawan Lost she says in utmost gratitude to Anakin:
"When I was out there, alone, all I had were the lessons you taught me, and not only was I able to stay alive, but I was able to keep others alive, too."
ugh it is just sooooo beautiful and painful because she bowed to him, so reverent of her master. and YEARS later, when she is Fulcrum in Rebels... her sentiment still applied exactly.
Because of the lessons Anakin Skywalker taught her she was able to keep thousands of rebels alive.
She was yet again out there, alone, but could keep herself alive and others alive in the Purge (another hunt) ... because of what she learned from Anakin.
she never stops loving Anakin and always holds him in the highest regard. her devotion to him is gutwrenchingly beautiful honestly. pure. just like Luke's.
Padawan Lost parallels the post Order-66 period of Ahsoka's life so much.
