Watch How the Real Sean Spicer Compares to Saturday Night Live's Parody
My SNL S40E1 Analysis Because Now That Social Media Exists I Can Share My Thoughts With Hopefully at Least One Person Instead of Just Myself
"Pretty good show. I had an enjoyable time. I'm okay with that."
I enjoyed the cold opening and the commercial skits the most. As for the Marvel one I'd love to watch those movies. Chris Pratt's Princess Leia face was perfection. I thought the action figures coming to life sketch was funny but the ending fell flat, a common problem I find with many sketches. I do not look forward to watching that skit with my dad later. The censor was in a good mood that day. Also, Ariana Grande shouldn't have used her Judy Garland old timey movie voice to play a superhero type. Great voice but wrong skit. The bad sitcom sketch had it's funny moments, could've been funnier though, and was certainly a true representation of all the bad sitcoms I have watched (and I have enjoyed many of them). The flirt like a music video sketch was an accurate depiction of how crazy it is that we don't think about the lyrics of the songs we like. Aidy Bryan is always a funny delight. The NFL themed sketches were great social commentary comedy (Is that a phrase), as SNL can always bring it in that way. So thank you for that SNL.
As for Weekend Update I really liked it. The jokes were relevant, well executed, smart, and funny. I do hope the two hosts now, Colin Jost and Michael Che develop a banter and partnership with one another. I don't want cohosts that only sit next to each other. I want a partnership. I want to know their personalities. That is what was missing with the last two sets of cohosts in my opinion. I think if Che and Jost develop a dialogue with each other they can have a great partnership. Che can tease Jost on his gifted follicles for instance. Also, I loved both of Leslie Jones update bits and I hope we see a lot more of her. Though I would've liked her to say, "Help me Ghost Whisperer You're My Only Hope." The new kid, (he'll be called that for a long time) Pete Davidson, killed it! It was touching and accurate that they all pointed to him during the goodbyes. We'll remember that happened in the years to come. Also, the singing encouraging bit was great! That should be a recurring bit!
Overall, I enjoyed the latest episode of SNL. There weren't any sketches I will always remember or watch again and again but it was an enjoyable hour and a half. I laughed out loud, said "I can't believe they got away with that", and thought some of the jokes were very silly or smart and insightful. All the makings of a good show. I think Chris Pratt was a great host as evident because he was in just about every sketch. From what I know about Chris Pratt I know that he is a comedic genius. I would've loved for others that aren't familiar with Pratt to have gone to bed knowing that he is a comedic genius. That being said I do not think the audience walked away knowing that Chris Pratt is a comedic genius (no fault of Pratt's) but they did go to sleep knowing he is a funny talented likable guy who was a great host and that's not bad. I do wish the other elements in the show (writing, sketches, ect) had risen higher to the occasion since Chris Pratt was host and instead of being a "pretty good" "enjoyable" episode it had been a "best show of the season" "OMG, did you see that one skit" type of show. You get me?
* I probably forgot some things as I do not live post. I post post.
