My son has been begging me to make a snow squirrel since I finished his second snow bunny. My cartoon bunny from a few weeks ago didn’t suit
I finally made the snow squirrel
Even the chickens approve

A batch of ych commissions for ashleyfableblack on furaffinity of her family and friends
in order (all on furaffinity): ashleyfableblack sanita_squirrel krissiefox ahriman dratis
now, onto the reason for there being three versions of this: I couldn't decide between blanket colors! color composition is so very important, beans, and this is a really good example of why. This version with the red blanket just has an extra warm and cozy feeling to it. I really like how it adds to the feeling and accentuates the other red tones throughout the whole without removing attention from them, and helps ground the whole thing with its warmth. Red is a passionate color, the color of love, and they are surrounded by it! This piece was a commission done for a good friend, the amazing and wonderfully kind Ashleyfableblack on furaffinity of her and her wife Sanita and their son Edgar! I will be doing up a second similar piece as a gift for her because we both had difficulty choosing between my two sketched ideas but this is the one that ultimately won as official by an edge To be completely honest, I have been incredibly lucky to get to know Ashley, and fortunate enough to call her a friend. When she came to me with the initial idea for this commission I already had it in my mind that I had to make it extra special. I wanted it to radiate the kind of pure love that comes out when she talks about these two- just absolutely bonkers levels of the finest concentrated love that money can't buy! (because you can't buy love y'all! don't try) I've told ashley several times now, but I'm so happy for her, that she has her family and that it's growing! She deserves the happiness, they both deserve the love, and I know that Edgar will never have to feel like he was unwanted/unloved. And soon he will have a baby sister! Won't that just be so amazing? I'm so happy for them!! I tried to put as many little details in that helped express warmth, love, familiarity, family, their personalities, their dynamics as best as i possibly could. I drew on my own experience babysitting my nieces and nephews for edgar's pose and the way toddlers can be SO pudgy squishy and skinny at the same time it's really amazing. Their expressions, the wrinkles, their body types and sanita's baby bump, the wisps of hair out of place... All of it I wanted to feel alive and real and representative of who they are and how very much in love they are. I'd like to think from her reaction when I sent her the files that I did a good job at it haha now, onto the reason for there being three versions of this: I couldn't decide between blanket colors! color composition is so very important, beans, and this is a really good example of why. This version with the red blanket just has an extra warm and cozy feeling to it. I really like how it adds to the feeling and accentuates the other red tones throughout the whole without removing attention from them or competing, and helps ground the whole thing with its warmth. Red is a passionate color, the color of blood and love and relates to them in a lot of ways so it only felt fitting to use it. The dark one is deeper and adds more contrast leaving the three of them as the brightest part of the piece leading the eye naturally to them. It’s still a warm tone not fully black to continue to bring about that feeling of warmth, though. It also adds balance mirroring the black pillow behind sanita and her shirt The white blanket takes away contrast being a similar tone to all of the surrounding colors but gives it a lighter more airy feeling as if they’re floating, wrapped in a sunset lit sky. Each of these colors changes how the piece feels in subtle ways but all three of them add something special to it so i could not choose Ultimately I'm just very proud of this piece and i was so happy to do it for her, Sorry if this got long I just had a lot to say about them Love y'all be good to each other and stay safe
