A batch of ych commissions for ashleyfableblack on furaffinity of her family and friends
in order (all on furaffinity): ashleyfableblack sanita_squirrel krissiefox ahriman dratis
Good afternoon. Share a moment with me, will you?
Funny fact- when I first heard Donald Trump was running for the office of president, I thought it was some manner of joke. I can still recall when I was a child, public opinion of the man was never all that great. He was well-known for being a racist- that’s a quote from the man himself in the comic. He was also something of an anti-semite, depending upon your views of that term. He was well-known for being a womanizer. He’d been involved in multiple scams and shady dealings. Add to all this that he was a billionaire, that’s “billion-aire” with a capitol “B”, as in “BUY and sell all of our BROKE arses”. Not to mention that I recalled him saying how stupid republicans were, easily manipulated, low-borns and religious crack-pots who would eat out of his hand if he ever ran for office.  I assumed this was just some publicity stunt he was going for, something to keep his name in the public discourse, maybe bump up the ratings for his show or help him sell himself for some deal or another. The man has always been known as being an amoral cunt. He was almost to a T everything the average conservative seemed to rail against, the rich, hedonist who bullied “the little guy”. Surely no one in their right mind would take this seriously....
And yet *hands spread wide* here we are. Although voter turnout was only purportedly about 1/3 of Americans and less than half of them voted for him, still, the electoral process has elected him to office. Like it or not, when faced with the option of a proven candidate with decades of experience who was not many people’s first choice but who knew the job and a ranting billionaire jerk-burger with a proven history of shady dealings, blatant racism, advocacy for and from hate-groups, well, again *smiles* here we are. The man knew his audience and he played them like a violin, ranting obvious lies and supporting both conspiracy theories and persecution complexes at every turn. No matter how obvious his antics were to many people, they played upon the fears and tribalism of many segments of our society and sadly, they worked.
For me, this election and the fallout from it over the last year or so, it’s never been about party. “Republican” or “Democrat”, what-have-you... it’s about compassion, decency, respect for others and for the dreams we all share in the world. Trump himself isn’t the problem, really. It’s the people he represents. Among his supporters you’ll find all the worst portions of what continues to drag us all down, as a people, a nation and a species. Religious evangelists who deny decades-old scientific fact- evolution, sexual education and so on, fundamentalists who want to force their beliefs on other people and their children, denying others the protection under law which they enjoy, fearful, hateful people who want to undo all the years of hard-won progress and equality for minorities, violent “nationalists” who should probably be locked up for their own good before their xenophobia and ethnocentrism gets somebody killed...too late for that last one, I’m afraid, unfortunate, fearful people who’ve been shaped into fearing the world around them, envious of others’ happiness and terrified of “The Other”, anything different from their tribe. So what do we do? Do we rant about what a bastard he is, blog after blog, vid after vid? Do we attempt more direct measures, resorting to violence like thugs and barbarians? Do we attempt to open a dialogue with the people who still refuse to accept the horror for what he is, see what perspective they have and try to make them see the light of reason?
Or... do we just squeeze out a good juicy squeeker as we pass by the orange cunt?Â
*shrugs*Â Me, I have my favourite.
Protest the man, himself if you feel it’s right. I’d never fault that- but compassion for EVERYONE, equality and freedom for us ALL. That, in my opinion, is much more worth fighting for.
now, onto the reason for there being three versions of this: I couldn't decide between blanket colors! color composition is so very important, beans, and this is a really good example of why. This version with the red blanket just has an extra warm and cozy feeling to it. I really like how it adds to the feeling and accentuates the other red tones throughout the whole without removing attention from them, and helps ground the whole thing with its warmth. Red is a passionate color, the color of love, and they are surrounded by it! This piece was a commission done for a good friend, the amazing and wonderfully kind Ashleyfableblack on furaffinity of her and her wife Sanita and their son Edgar! I will be doing up a second similar piece as a gift for her because we both had difficulty choosing between my two sketched ideas but this is the one that ultimately won as official by an edge To be completely honest, I have been incredibly lucky to get to know Ashley, and fortunate enough to call her a friend. When she came to me with the initial idea for this commission I already had it in my mind that I had to make it extra special. I wanted it to radiate the kind of pure love that comes out when she talks about these two- just absolutely bonkers levels of the finest concentrated love that money can't buy! (because you can't buy love y'all! don't try) I've told ashley several times now, but I'm so happy for her, that she has her family and that it's growing! She deserves the happiness, they both deserve the love, and I know that Edgar will never have to feel like he was unwanted/unloved. And soon he will have a baby sister! Won't that just be so amazing? I'm so happy for them!! I tried to put as many little details in that helped express warmth, love, familiarity, family, their personalities, their dynamics as best as i possibly could. I drew on my own experience babysitting my nieces and nephews for edgar's pose and the way toddlers can be SO pudgy squishy and skinny at the same time it's really amazing. Their expressions, the wrinkles, their body types and sanita's baby bump, the wisps of hair out of place... All of it I wanted to feel alive and real and representative of who they are and how very much in love they are. I'd like to think from her reaction when I sent her the files that I did a good job at it haha now, onto the reason for there being three versions of this: I couldn't decide between blanket colors! color composition is so very important, beans, and this is a really good example of why. This version with the red blanket just has an extra warm and cozy feeling to it. I really like how it adds to the feeling and accentuates the other red tones throughout the whole without removing attention from them or competing, and helps ground the whole thing with its warmth. Red is a passionate color, the color of blood and love and relates to them in a lot of ways so it only felt fitting to use it. The dark one is deeper and adds more contrast leaving the three of them as the brightest part of the piece leading the eye naturally to them. It’s still a warm tone not fully black to continue to bring about that feeling of warmth, though. It also adds balance mirroring the black pillow behind sanita and her shirt The white blanket takes away contrast being a similar tone to all of the surrounding colors but gives it a lighter more airy feeling as if they’re floating, wrapped in a sunset lit sky. Each of these colors changes how the piece feels in subtle ways but all three of them add something special to it so i could not choose Ultimately I'm just very proud of this piece and i was so happy to do it for her, Sorry if this got long I just had a lot to say about them Love y'all be good to each other and stay safe
I don’t think I’ve ever posted this here on tumblr - This was the first piece of art my wife ever created for me when we first met at Oklacon back in 2010! <3
A sketch I made a while back, trying to recreate some of the scenery from a dream I had where my wife lived in a beautiful castle full of artwork, where we would talk and draw together. Usually dreams like this are serene all the way through but this time Ultron from The Avengers showed up later, wanting to destroy all the art, and we flew around in the sky fighting him and his robot minions. *shrugs* I guess Ultron is an art hater in my subconcious mind?
Anyway, I really like these kinds of dreams -the ones that involve visiting or living with Ashley in some sort of magical, enchanting place, sometimes with the two of us in very elegant dress . I can't really recreate the the emotional atmosphere they have but in this instance I atleast wanted to try to recreate the interesting layout of the castle home.
