‘U’ Snow Queen Finalists Adept at Winter Sports
The six finalists for queen of the University of Minnesota’s 1946 Snow Week sit with their fingers crossed, hoping for a win (top row: Joyce Lantz, Marian Koch, Nadine Johnson; bottom row: Patricia Hegvold, Jeanne Peterson, Margaret Grant). For the first time in Snow Week history, beauty alone was no longer enough to qualify a woman for the title. Instead, candidates were chosen for their ability at winter sports (though appearance and personality still factored in). The 1946 Snow Week, held January 21-27, marked a return from a 4-year war-time Snow Week hiatus.
Margaret Grant, a figure skater from St. Paul, was crowned Snow Queen on January 22nd.

Snow Week Day 6: Snowman
Frosty the snowman really is popular with the kids, especially Karen.
Snow Week Day 5: Snow Maiden
I know this looks a little inaccurate, but I made my own modern day version of Snegurochka/Snegurka (the Snow Maiden).
Snow Week Day 4: Snow Fairy
Consider yourself lucky to have a winter fairy like Periwinkle as your twin sister and a new friend to the other summer fairies!
Snow Week Day 3: Snow Angel
Beast’s snow angel was more like a snow beast, but he did try after seeing Belle her beautiful and smart snow angel.
Snow Week Day 2: Snowflake
No two snowflakes are alike.
