Hey, any tips for building a hybrid pillow fort / voltron deck with Teysa II (the DGM one)?
Hi there, thanks for the question!
I will confess that this type of deck is not my forte, as I generally prefer Orzhov as a utilitarian combo engine based around creature sacrificing and board control. That said, White and Black definitely have options available for you when it comes to building up a defensive wall, so I’ll try to offer what help I can.
White is one of the best colors when it comes to slowing your opponent down on the field. Well-known options like Windborn Muse and Ghostly Prison are Commander mainstays and easily slot into a deck that wants to do this. Norn’s Annex is another option but it’s not as viable in my opinion as paying two life to swing in with a creature that attacks for eight or ten is easy math. Archangel of Tithes is probably a better choice than the Annex as it dissuades combat and is also a body out on the field. Black often tends to prefer letting the opponent swing in but making them pay for it afterwards through cards like No Mercy and Dread. Note that Black brings Koskun Falls to the table here as well, which is a card that not a lot of people know about and fewer expect.
There are a number of options for reducing the value on your opponents’ plays through cards like Blind Obedience, Loxodon Gatekeeper, and Thalia, Heretic Cathar, among others. Similarly, cards like Rule of Law, Eidolon of Rhetoric and Ethersworn Canonist can lock down players that try to “go off” and do multiple things in a single turn. Decks like the one you’re working on tend to be slower to build up, and this will keep opponents from shooting ahead too far. Angelic Arbiter slides nicely into both this category and the previous one, although it is a bit on the expensive side when you’re playing in a color combination that will need to rely on artifact-based mana ramp. Aura of Silence is another well-known option in this category, and cards like Kambal, Consul of Allocation and Spelltithe Enforcer are interesting options here as well. This type of effect should be weighed carefully, as too much of it will likely paint a target on your head at multiplayer tables, and three players targeting you at once can probably overtake the speedbumps you put in the way.
Effects like Karmic Justice, Martyr’s Bond and Grave Pact might help you from losing the individual options you place down on the field. Since a strategy like this is fairly heavy on the Enchantment card type, you might also consider some Constellation cards that will further disrupt your opponents. Doomwake Giant specifically comes to mind here, and Agent of Erebos is a great option if any of your local players utilize their graveyard at all. Sphere of Safety also makes an excellent deterrent here, and Greater Auramancy offers an extra layer of protection for your enchantments.
Utilizing Teysa as your win condition is the most visibly reachable finish for the deck, and probably the most stable. Using Auras to help push the damage output lets you get further benefit out of the enchantment-based strategy we’ve been looking at already. The more obvious ones are likely the best – things like Angelic Destiny, Edge of the Divinity and Ethereal Armor are solid includes here. Flickerform is another way to keep Teysa protected in case you need it. One rather humorous option is Shade’s Form, which gives the creature the Shade mana-sink ability and also has a sort of prototype Totem Armor. Creature auras should probably be secondary to the global enchantments you’ll be using to build your fort, though, as once you’ve put yourself out of harm’s way you can swing in mostly at your leisure.
A final, if slightly obvious, note are cards like Replenish and Open the Vaults that allow you to have reset buttons on hand in case of a board-wide blowout. Retether is another thought here; it only grabs creature Auras but in your later game that might be a benefit to you.
Your specific mileage on each of these cards will vary, as including many of them will be dependent on what decks are being played in your local area and how you need to interact with each of them. I’ve probably given you more cards here than the deck will actually want to run, so you should take the time to consider each as an option and determine what suits you the best. Feel free to send me another message and let me know if I can be of further help, or if you just want to show off the list once you get it together. Good luck with the build!
She watched it happen, over and over and over again.
There was nothing she could do about it.
She couldn’t warn her.
She couldn’t stop him.
She always woke up covered in sweat.
Even now that they were all together again, and Yang had more than forgiven her, she still had her nightmares.
“Hey…” A groggy voice broke the silence in the darkness. The form next to her rolled over, facing Blake. Though Yang’s eyes took a bit to adjust, Blake could see her fairly quickly. Night vision and all that. “You okay?” The blonde asked, reaching out to the other.
“Yeah.” Blake responded quietly, catching her girlfriend’s hand. “Bad dream.”
“Do you want some warm milk?” Yang asked, still kind of sleepy.
The brunette’s ears and face fell in disappointment.
“Oh- No- that’s not-” Yang sat up when she realized the tension. “That’s what my dad gets me and Ruby after we have a bad dream. It wasn’t a joke.”
The other huffed a small laugh, then met Yang’s cheek with her lips. “Thank you, but it kind of upsets my stomach sometimes.”
“Right. Sorry.”
“There is something that could possibly help a little though…”
Yang smiled wide, returning the cheek kiss before both girls slid back down into the bed. Quietly, the blonde draped her arm around the other, pulling her back close to her by the hip, and holding on tight. As long as she was there holding her, Blake knew they’d both be okay.
As many of the Valentine's questions as you want to do for RWBY!
Alight I did most of them so buckle up:
Is there a ship you didn’t like at first but ultimately started shipping?Neo/Torchwick. My original impression of their relationship was much more familial than where it ended up, mostly cause my first impression of Neo was around the same age as RWBY. I see her as much older now, don't worry
What is the rarest rare pair (that you ship)?Fox/Merc. It exists no where except in Theater AU, as far as I know.
What is your most fluffy + happy ship?Probably Crosshares. Any of the team CFVY stuff is usually so sweet I love it.
What is your most angsty ship???? I don't know all of my ships are varying angsty and happy at different times? Depending on when I write them? Probably OzQrow right now cause other people are writing sad fics for them right now and I am devouring them I love it.
A non-canon ship that should be canon?Martial Arcs! I'm really leaning into the Gay!Ren theory, which doesn't need to result in Martial Arcs, but it would be nice.
Is there a ship that makes your skin crawl?None outside the obvious. (Huge age-gaps and the like.)
What is a character you can only imagine in one particular ship?None, I am a vicious multi-shipper.
What is your favourite canon ship?Right now Arkos is the only canon ship (heh) so... Arkos? (I do love it though)
Name a ship that deserved more content.I wanna say JauneMerc but as there is absolutely no basis for it in canon I'm gonna say Em/Ruby
Is there a ship you feel gets undeserved hate in fandom?*cough*blacksun*cough* No but honestly though, I understand after last season, but still.
Is there a type of ship you always go for?Dumb idiots taking way to long to realize they're in love.
Have you ever created fan created content for a ship?I've done a few drabbles, though if people want to prompt me more I won't say no ;)
Favourite thing you’ve ever created for a ship?Okay I know ANBS!AU isn't out yet I swear I'm just waiting on my beta the first chapter's up it's coming you guys I promise
Is there a ship you’ll never admit you have?Yes.
Have you ever started shipping a ship because of the fans?Neo/Roman and Ironqrow. Blame @sensicalabsurdities for the first and basically all the Ironqrow Squad people.
Is there a character you ship with multiple people? All of them. I have a chart.
What is the ship you ignore 98% of canon for?Poly-ANBS.
Hi! I've been rlly nervous to talk to you bc you're cool and pretty and I'm a gay mess but also we have a favorite character in common and i just think you're really rad and yeah
It’s okay, I’m also generally a really nervous gay mess and also a massive loser, I’m not nearly as intimidating as I usually seem lmao I’m glad you think I’m pretty rad though, I try my best B)))
Canon fact- Blake’s experience at the dance was largely glossed over despite the fact that almost everything leading up to the dance was trying to get her to go
Headcanon- Blake left early
Heartcanon- Blake left with Ren, bc both of them kinda got sensory overload and needed to relax
Soulcanon- Yang left early to make sure that Blake was okay and kinda felt bad for guilt tripping her into going, but Blake was like “nah, you were right, i needed it”
Crotchcanon- Ren and Blake hung out a bit in the team RWBY room and talked before Yang showed up and Ren was like “i’ll leave you guys alone yo” and the second Ren left they got busy bc fuck Yang and Blake don’t have a lot of time alone together
