Norsery Rhymes from A to Z Drifa, The Flurry of Snow Horse

Well here we are on another ThorsDay with another 20 min sketch of a Norse (and Germanic, sometimes Celtic) mythological characters.  This week it’s Drifa / Drífa / Driva, a mythic snow horse.

Her name means in Old Norse, ‘snowfall’, or ‘a flurry of snow’, or ‘fall of snow’, or ‘snowdrift’, or ‘the driving snow’.  All indicating a heavy snowfall. Al from the Proto European ‘dhreybh’ meaning ‘driving’ or ‘drifting’.

Not to be confused with the Jotun / Giant of the same name or the Jotun / Giant descended Queen and personification of snow of the same name. The first of which I’ll link to my previous drawings and descriptions here and here, and the later here.

My fav pony outa the bunch , we call her Sigurd after one of the sons of Ragnar from Vikings , not quite a snake in her eye but she does have an unusual single blue eye which really stands out .
